"You don't have to say anything, just accept it."
"Yes~." She answered softly and he smiled, gently sliding the ring onto her ring finger.
~~~
"I know you've all come here for an execution, but no one else will die here today. The city of light has fallen and there is no commander left to rule us. Until another nightlife ascends, I, King Roan of Azgeda, eldest son of Nia, grandson of Theo, am caretaker of the throne... and keeper of the flame...."
"YU STE HAIEFA, NOU A OUSPIKA!" [You're a king, not a priest!] A pretty, but fierce dark-skinned woman was brave enough to stand up to the king and Meave didn't seem to recognize her from around Polis. However, she did seem to believe heavily in the faith of the commanders and the flame.
"KAINA BANDRAGEN DISON BILAIK?!" [This is blasphemy?!]
"Nou bandragen. Reinseden." [Not blasphemy. Order.] Roan calmly stated towards the young woman and folded his hands behind his back.
"Until another ascends, Azgeda honors and will defend the coalition of the last true commander, Lexa Kom Trikru, including the thirteenth clan."
Jaws dropped, eyes went wide, and gasps and mumbling was heard. It honestly scared Meave. She had no idea if Skaikru as the 13th clan would ever get accepted and she had no idea if her king perhaps now had lost the people's trust. Though it didn't take long before people processed the news and once again paid attention to Roan.
"Let it be known that an attack against Skaikru, is an attack against us all. Let it also be known...." Roan held his hand out to the audience, actually pointing to where Meave was standing and despite the fact her body told her not to go, she pushed herself through the crowd nonetheless. She wasn't going to take the easy way and disappoint him. He wanted the world to know so she would proudly step up.
How closer she got to Roan, how more people started to create a path for her to walk through. She thanked them all kindly and carefully took his hand, accepting the help he offered to get her onto the stage like platform.
"That I won't rule alone. My wife will, like every queen before her, have the same rights as me and she will be respected just as much as I am respected. If not.... we all know what that means."
~~~
"Welcome to your throne room, my king and my queen. Now that the lift has been repaired, I've doubled the guards at the doors on every floor." A smiling Echo explained to Roan and Meave with sparkling eyes and a big smile, proud of herself and what she had accomplished for their safety.
"Expecting trouble?"
"I trust only Azgeda. Your mother taught me that. Our people loved her for it." Meave heard a cold underlying tone in Echo's voice, meant for her as she was of course not true Azgeda. She probably had to hear this silent hatred a lot, perhaps even double the guards if she wanted to walk around in the streets without her husband by her side to prevent any assassinations on her.
"Our people feared her, Echo."
"Because she was fierce and vicious." She held onto her love for the Ice Queen, not letting the words of her beloved king into her mind in any way. Meave couldn't understand it though. The Ice Queen had hurt Roan, banished him, let him fight to the death for her against his will. That wasn't mother love, that was anything other than love. How could Echo serve him and praise his mother with him in her presence while she knew he hated her.
"My mother's ambition, her disregard for Lexa's alliance got her killed." Roan calmly responded and wrapped his arm around his wife while she sat down on the railing of his throne. She had to admit it suited him well, the throne, the crown, his pride while he sits on it and that confident look. Echo had to admit it as well. He made a great king already and it hadn't been that long.
"If I may, why do you insist on ruling as Lexa did when it's not what's best for our people? At least tell me there is a reason-...."
Before Echo could even finish her sentence or Roan could give her an answer, Kane and Octavia interrupted them impolitely.
"Forgive the intrusion, your highness. May we have a word-.... privately." They watched Echo and Meave.
"You can wait like the other ambassadors." Echo snapped and Meave awkwardly folded her hands.
"Echo, leave us." The king commanded and confused, she watched both her king and Kane. She couldn't believe her own king, the king she had to defend, was sending her away so he could have a little conversation with Skaikru. "Please." He politely added and against her will she forced herself to step foot outside of the room.
Meave wanted to follow, hesitating if he meant her as well, but then she felt his hand on her lower back followed by a whisper. "Don't leave, love. You're my equal, you're my queen, so you stay right next to me. Always." He kissed her neck unnoticeably and she nodded while the door closed again.
"We were right to be concerned about Trishanakru.... Rafel is going to challenge you for control."
"Bold move for a new ambassador." Roan didn't even seem to be bothered by the news, calmly staring at them as he rose to his feet. "So, let him come."
"With respect, you're still recovering."
"The law says you could pick someone to fight in your place."
"No, the clans will never accept a leader who hides behind the law or another warrior's blood." He folded his hands behind his back and Meave unfortunately had to agree. He was right. The clans would turn against him if he would hide behind another warrior during combat and he could afford that chaos right now.
"You'll lose. Lexa kicked your ass without a bullet hole in your chest."
"We should cancel the gathering or delay until you're strong enough."
"I don't think that's a good idea...." Meave cleared her throat nervously, somehow trying to back up Roan because he was the one that grew up on the ground, the one who was raised to be a king so he would know best.
"Letting the ambassadors have a voice keeps the peace here." The deep voice ended her sentence and she smiled at him. "Azgeda holds this city through force alone, and the flame won't keep the claws at bay forever. If they unite against us, we could lose, and if we lose-...."
"They come for Skaikru."
