(34) Starting Over

Three months later 

"Hey can we be adults and discuss custody?" 

Bucky received that text from Ellie as he was finishing up his surgery notes. He did what he told Ellie he was going to do. He took over his grandpa's neurosurgery office. His cousin Dylan and Sam both work with him at it as well. 

He replied back "Yes I think at 31 we can be adults." 

"Great. Can you meet me tomorrow at 1 for lunch? At Wings and Burgers?" She replied back. 

"Yeah. I wasn't aware that you were in town." He replied back. 

"See you then." She replied 

She was sitting on her couch Sydney was watching baby Einstein while she unpacked. Ellie sold the house and moved back to Savannah. Ryan helped her get a house that was a 4 bedroom house close to him and Ophelia. 

She was now done with her masters as well. Ophelia came over and helped her get unpacked and settled into her house. Ryan came over after work to help put together furniture. 

"You've got this baby. I have faith in you baby that you Sydney and baby boy will be just fine. And I'm two houses down if you need us." Ryan said 

"Thanks daddy." She said 

"We love you baby. Good night." Ryan said 

"Goodnight." Ellie said as she shut the door and locked it. 

"I've got this." She whispered as she looked around. 

She saw her phone light up and vibrate it was Colton calling. She ignored it and texted him. 

"She's already in bed and asleep." 

"So we can't talk?" 

She rolled her eyes and went upstairs. 

The next day she enrolled Sydney at a daycare and bought stuff for her new office. Her old therapist recently retired leaving the office space open. Ryan and his group of friends pitched in to help her get lease for it. 

At noon she had her sister Tabitha watch Sydney for her while she went to meet Bucky. She was already sitting and waiting. 

"Hey.." he said as he slid in across from her. 

"Hey.." she said 

Seeing her again made his heart beat skip and butterflies filled his stomach. 

"Um..I've recently moved back to Savannah. And I was wondering if we could discuss a new custody agreement." She said 

"What do you want?" He said as he bit into his wing. 

"I was hoping that we could do what we were doing before college. We could alternate weeks I'm living close to dad so it's in the same school district." She said as she ate her salad. 

"Well, I don't mind but you know our custody agreement is through the court so we will have to go through that again. And mom's health isn't good so we have to start doing drop off and pick up again. Cam will be excited to have you close by again." He said 

"Thanks Buck." She said as she drank her water. 

They paid for their lunches and started to leave. "You're pregnant again.." he said 

"Yeah..six months along with a boy." She said 

"Elle is something wrong? Cause you don't seem like yourself. I wasn't going to say anything but.." he said 

"I'm fine. Everything is fine. Let me know once you talk to your lawyer. And I'll meet you on Friday at 4." She said 

"Okay...and Elle if you need a friend you can talk to me. I know we haven't been on each other'a good side but I'm here if you need someone." He said 

"I told you I'm fine. But thanks.." she said 

She walked off to her car he watched her as he whispered "No you're not. Somethings wrong and you don't want to tell me." 

That Friday she and Bucky met at the police station. It's where she had requested just to be safe. 

"Mom.." Cam said as he hugged her. 

"Hey baby." She whispered as she hugged him. 

"Here's his bag. He has football practice tomorrow at the middle school at 2. And he knows the rule about his cellphone. He can't be on it past 10." Bucky said 

"Okay." She said as she noticed movement from Bucky's passenger side. 

"Oh that's dad's girlfriend Lyla. She lives with us." Cam said 

"Hi nice to meet you finally. I'm Dr Lyla Burke." Lyla said 

"Dr Ellie Cooper-Baxter." She said 

"You and Colton must be so excited for the new baby." Lyla said 

Ellie forced a smile. "Yeah..we sure are. Anyways nice to meet you and I'll see you Sunday Buck. Come on Cam we will get pizza." She said as she walked off. 

Bucky watched her he could read her like a book. Ellie wasn't happy but she has practiced how to fake smiles and fake happy her whole life. But he was always the one that could see behind her facade. 

"Hey Elle..remember what I said. I'm here if you need me." He said as he opened his car door 

"And I said I was fine." She said as she got in her car and they went their opposite directions.
