(35) A Talk With Mom

Two months later 

Ellie was making dinner for her Cam and Sydney. It was her week with him she was cutting peppers on a Monday afternoon. 

"You've been quiet since I picked you up last night. Anything you want to talk about?" She said 

"Not really. It's just that dad and Lyla are fighting." He said 

"Oh..was the fight about you?" She said 

"No.." he said 

She looked over at him he was clearly bothered by their arguing. She walked over to him and sat down. 

"What was the fight about?" She said 

"Lyla was having a baby. But dad said she had a miscarriage." He said 

"Okay.." she said 

"Lyla is upset with dad because he wasn't upset about it like she is." He said 

"Oh..well I've known your daddy for a long time Cam. Your daddy is tough he always has been and doesn't like to show emotions. I'm sure that he was probably just trying to be strong for her and is upset on the inside." She said as she went to check on Sydney. 

When she came back in the room she began putting the peppers in the pan. 

"Mom?" Cam said 

"Yeah baby." She said 

"Where's Colton? I know baseball is still in season for him. But during his first year with the Angels. He would fly in between games..why hasn't he done that this season?" Cam said 

She looked down. "He's working Cam.." she said as she began to add the steak. 

"Mom I'm 13 you don't have to lie to me." He said 

She sighed as she closed her eyes. 

"Did he leave us? Is that why he hasn't been here?" Cam said 

"Cam.." she said 

He walked over to her. "Mom look at me. Is that why you moved back?" He said 

But when she looked at her 13 year old son as he held her face. All she saw was a pair of blue eyes that she had looked into her entire life. 

"Cam..sit down.." she said 

He went back to where he was doing his homework. She took a deep breathe. 

"Don't tell your dad what I'm about to tell you. I don't need him in my business." She said 

"Yes ma'am." He said 

"Colton didn't leave us. We agreed to go our separate ways I wasn't happy anymore. His job  keeps him away a lot. And I needed him to be here with us and he couldn't give me that. He chose to continue his career as a Major League Baseball player." She said 

"Why couldn't you go be with him in LA?" Cam said 

she looked at him. "Because of you. I couldn't leave you and I didn't want to lose more time with you. But I'm okay I'm working and have more time with you. We have your sister and now we have your baby brother on the way. Mama has this all down I moved back to where we have our family our friends and I couldn't ask for anything more. So finish up your homework supper will be ready soon." She said 

He came back around the bar and hugged her. "You are an amazing mom." He said 

"Thank you baby." She said as she hugged him and kissed the top of his head. The three of them had supper together. That night after she tucked both of them in. 

She was about to turn off Cam's light. "Hey mom." He said 

"Yeah baby." She said 

"Please don't get mad at me. But I think Colton is a real douche bag for leaving you while you are pregnant. Regardless of the fact that it was a mutual decision. He chose his job over his family and that's not right. Dad told me when we had my sex talk that you are suppose to step up regardless of the situation with the mom." Cam said 

She smiled at him. "Well I'm glad he taught you that lesson." She said 

"Goodnight mom I love you." He said 

"Goodnight. Love you too." She said as she shut the door. 

She texted Bucky "Thank you for teaching him to be a man if he gets a girl pregnant. You've done amazing with him James." She said 

He smirked as he stared at the screen. He was drunk at home in the basement of his house while Lyla was upstairs asleep. 

"He may look like me. But he got all of his mama's best qualities." 

She rolled her eyes.
