(40) Surgery and Discharge

Three months later 

It was a Tuesday afternoon on March 13th when Dr Danica Keller came into Ellie's room on the cancer floor. Natasha came into the room beaming. 

"Morning everyone." Danica said 

The room had Ryan,Ophelia,James and Winnie on one side of Ellie's bed and on the other side was Bucky Cam and Lyla. 

"Okay so here's the deal. After taking a look at this morning's scans. The tumor has reduced in size. Natasha has a plan for you Ms Cooper. But my part is this tomorrow morning at 1045AM we will be taking you back in surgery to remove the tumor. The chemo worked and now we are able to do the last tumor removal." Danica said 

"Omg thank you. I knew something was up when my mother started to show up less." She said completely run down. 

Chemotherapy was making Ellie so tired so sick all the time. 

"Dr Murdoc." Danica said 

"Ellie once you are healed enough from the surgery we will be sending you home. But you will need someone to stay with you. You can't be alone just yet you will need someone with you at all times. We also have you signed up for rehabilitation therapy with a physical and occupational therapist. It will take you awhile to get back on your feet. We will also no longer be doing the chemo just the radiation for the first two months to make sure that you have no other microscopic remains of the tumor." Natasha said 

"I'll stay with her." Bucky said

"Buck.." Ellie whispered 

"I'll let you all sort that out. Don't forget to bring her down at 1 Barnes." Natasha said 

"I know." He said 

"James can I talk to you a second." Lyla said 

Bucky came over to Ellie. "I'll be back." He whispered as he cupped her face. 

"Bucky I can stay with my parents. You don't have to stay with me..she's clearly mad." She said 

He held her face. "No I always look after you. You are getting better baby doll." He said with a smile. 

"James.." Lyla said 

Bucky followed her out while the rest of the family was praising her for fighting. Once she and Lyla was out side and alone. 

"What the hell was that? Volunteering to stay with your ex girlfriend?" Lyla said 

"She's not just an ex Lyla. She is Cam's mother and someone who means the world to me." Bucky said 

"You are unbelievable right now! She left you to run off to TN she left you to raise Cam on your own so she could go chase her husband around. she didn't want you or Cam and now she's come running back into your life. And you are all about her and her life." Lyla said 

"You don't know a damn thing about the situation Lyla! She didn't leave Cam she left me she didn't leave our son. The custody arrangement was made that way cause I wanted her to have time with our son. You don't know Ellie at all so you have no right to judge her!" Bucky said 

"Don't you see it. She's using cancer as a way to get you back. Ever since she's come back you have changed. We have been together three years James and you don't want to get married you don't want kids with me that was clear two years ago.." Lyla said 

"Since I was little Lyla Ellie has been the girl I wanted to marry and have a family with. You don't know Ellie..you don't know what life has been like for her. She has been neglected abandoned abused and pushed to the side all of her life. She has sacrificed so much to get to where she is. And for you to sit here and be so disrespectful to my son's mother has it made it so much easier for me to tell you that we are over. She didn't need to get sick to win my heart back cause she's always had it ever since I kissed her in my clubhouse when we were little I knew she was the one for me. The one I was suppose to marry so we are done here. Within in the next two weeks I'll have me and Cam out of the town house. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go back upstairs and be with the woman that I am suppose to be with." He said and walked off. 

He rejoined everyone upstairs. He sat beside her.

"Everything okay?" She whispered 

"Everything is great." He said with a smile. 

The next morning Ellie was taken back for surgery while everyone was sitting in the waiting room. Ryan kept Colton updated through text messages since practice had started for them and he couldn't take off. 

After a successful two hours Danica came into the room. 

"She is tumor free and in recovery. We will keep her for a week before we send her home." Danica said 

"Thank you Dr Keller." Ryan said 

"Welcome in a few minutes the nurse will take you to her." Danica said 

That weekend with the help of the guys Bucky had successfully moved completely out of the town house he shared with Lyla. Put Camden's furniture in storage and moved the rest to Ellie's house. They set up the downstairs guest bedroom into a mock master bedroom since she wasn't going to be allowed on stairs. 

The following Thursday they discharged her. Both Bucky and Cam helped her into the car. 

"Your dad said he would keep the little ones another few days to give you time to adjust being home." Bucky said as he turned out of the parking lot. 

"Okay.." she whispered 

"Caylee's mom fixed us a bunch of casseroles mom. So we have meals I made sure Beatrice knew about your allergies." Camden said from the backseat. 

"Okay that's good." She said 

"We have a bunch of food actually. Everyone has been making food for us. I can cook I took care of me and Cam just fine." Bucky said 

"Dad putting a frozen pizza in the oven isn't cooking." Cam said 

"Camden James I made us more than frozen pizza. I made a lot of food." Bucky said as he drove through town. 

They finally arrived home, Camden took keys from Bucky that were Ellie's keys. He unlocked the door. While Bucky carried her inside Camden got her bags from the hospital out of the car. Ellie took her medicine and changed into more comfortable pajamas. It didn't take her long before she was asleep. 

Bucky cracked the door, as Cam was warming up a casserole. 

"Dad?" Camden said 

"Yeah son." Bucky said 

"Can I ask a question?" Cam said 

"Sure.." he said as he opened a water.

"You seem to care a lot about mom. Why is it you two haven't been together all this time? I mean  I love Syd and Cash. I use to like Colton till mom told me what he did." Cam said 

Bucky sighed. "You are gonna be 15 this year..I guess it is time you know that your dad was a total asshole. Your mom and I were together when we had you. But I messed up and cheated on her. She found me in bed with another girl..and broke up with me. I had to watch the woman I love more than anything else in the world be with someone else. And I had to learn the hard way of letting go of that love. Don't make my mistakes Camden.." Bucky said as he pulled the casserole out. 

They ate dinner together Cam went to his room to play video games while Bucky did laundry from everyone's hospital bags. When it was around 10 PM he joined Ellie in bed and kept his arm across her to ensure that she was breathing.
