With one swoop of its wing, the clay bird in front of us sent Naruto flying into a cushion of rocks. None of us had the chance to ask him if he was okay before he was back on his feet.
"He's strong," Kamina said. He was now breathing heavily and bracing himself on his knees.
Kakashi nodded. "He is, but you did well. Now he's within range for my own jutsu."
"What long distance jutsu do you plan to use on him?" I asked. "He just powered through an attack that should have melted his brain."
Kakashi didn't need to grace me with an answer. I could see his sharingan eye narrow in concentration which was more than enough to make me feel confident with our odds.
Above us, I watched as the space around Deidara twisted in a swirl-like pattern. It made his body appear distorted, like an illusion that hurt my eyes to watch. This wasn't a jutsu I had seen from Kakashi before. This was something he had developed and kept secret for an emergency such as now. Deidara's left side was slowly consumed, until suddenly the swirl disappeared completely. The sudden change sent Deidara stumbling backwards, but now without either of his arms to catch him.
"Damn. I still can't control the size or location of the dimensional barrier very well," Kakashi mumbled.
My attention turned to him just in time to see him sway and press the heel of his hand against his eye. I jumped to action and caught his shoulders just as his knees were about to buckle.
"Are you okay, Kakashi?"
He nodded. "I just haven't completely mastered that jutsu yet. It drains my chakra."
I huffed. "You're telling me that this guy is so strong that he took out the Kazekage and endured not one, but two jutsu's that drain the shinobi who preformed them. And all we have to show for it is two missing arms?"
"That sounds about right."
I looked up to see several on Naruto's shadow clones around us. Two of which were trudging towards Deidara with a rasengan at the ready between his hands. He took advantage of the situation and didn't give the enemy time to reevaluate before jumping in with another attack.
Deidara pulled away from Naruto's rasengan in time to save himself, but the head of his bird wasn't so lucky. Naruto severed it off and his shadow clones caught it as it fell to the ground.
He pulled at the clay of its mouth. The determination in his eyes to get to Gaara made my heart feel heavy.
Once he broke through he pulled the Kazekage out and shook his shoulders.
"Wake up, Gaara!"
Gaara's body fell forwards against Naruto's chest. Completely limp.
"I told you already, he's dead," Deidara spoke from his perch in a tree.
Naruto glared up at Deidara and his eyes turned a deep shade of red. Dark, jagged lines appeared on his cheeks and at the same time I sensed a surge in his chakra.
"I'm going to beat your face in!"
Deidara grinned. "I'd love to fight you again some day, but not today jinchuriki."
