|KAKASHI|

"You better act fast, Kakashi. Don't want your little brats getting hurt, do you?"

I glanced over to where Naruto, Sasuke and Amari were fighting against Haku, then over to Sakura and Jin who were defending the bridge builder. Not only were the lives of my own team riding on my back, but the lives of (Y/N)'s too.

Zabuza charged me while I was distracted. His sword swooped down in an ark towards me and I braced for an impact that never came. Instead, the sound of metal grinding on metal echoed through the air.

Looking up, (Y/N) stood in front of me. Her own sword blocking Zabuza's attack.

"What are you doing here?" I asked her in surprise.

"There's no time to talk about that!"

She was right. Reacting quickly, I pulled a scroll out from my pocket and held it between my fingers as I made my hand signs.

"Whatever you two do is pointless. You've both fallen into my trap completely, so now neither of you will be able to see or sense me," Zabuza chuckled darkly.

(Y/N) pushed Zabuza back with her blade just in time for my ninja hounds to appear, each one latching onto Zabuza.

"I may not be able to see or sense you, so I'll just use my nose to find you. This jutsu is one of my own. A summoning technique used for pursuing purposes."

(Y/N) stepped back so that she was at my side. Her eyes were wide with amazement. She had never seen me use this jutsu before.

"These are my cute ninja dogs. Their sense of smell is unmatched. Since my sent is all over your weapons, they found you easily."

Zabuza grit his teeth and tried to kick one of my dogs off his leg.

"Kakashi, it's cruel of you to play this out," (Y/N) said in a hushed tone next to me.

I gave her a nod to show her I agreed.

"Zabuza. I'm going to show you another technique of my own. Not a copy."

I let my chakra build up in my hand, blue lightning sparking around my feet and in my palms. "Lightning Edge!"

Lunging toward Zabuza, my sparking hand was aimed to go straight through his chest. However, before my jutsu made contact, the masked boy dodged in front of me.

For a moment it felt like time stopped.

"Haku," Zabuza gasped in shock.

Haku gripped my hand, his own blood pooling over his fingers and down the sleeve of my shirt.

"Zabu-za," he sighed with his last breath.

The boy went limp on my arm and fell against my chest.

"(Y/N), help me lay him down."

She did as I asked, laying Haku down with his head cradled in her arm. Gently, she closed his eyes.

"He's just a boy," she whispered.

I placed my hand on her shoulder and searched my mind to find the right words to say, but before I could the sound of footsteps echoed across the bridge.

"Tisk tisk, Zabuza. It looks to me like you failed your mission once again."

Gato and his goons appeared through the fog.

(Y/N) moved to stand, but her knees buckled under her. I swiftly caught her around the waist, draping one of her arms around my shoulders to stabilize her.
