"Sorry," I mumbled as I bumped into someone's shoulder.

I got a grunt int return and I listened as the persons heavy footsteps faded away.

When I was alone on the road away from any villages or towns, it was easy to navigate. I had my walking stick that helped me understand my surroundings and it was much quieter so I heavily relied on my sense of hearing.

It was different when I was in the villages. I was less in control on my surroundings. All the sounds, smells and voices were overwhelming and my walking stick was useless in crowds of people. Which was unfortunate, because I had to go to the towns and villages if I wanted supplies.

I eventually bumped into the wall of a building and leaned against it gratefully.

Not having to navigate through the crowd, I was able to pay closer attention to the sounds around me.

"Hey! You said if I mastered the Rasengan you'd buy me ramen!"

I perked up at the sound of a familiar voice.

"Technically, you didn't master it. You still need a clone to help you fulfil the jutsu."

I gripped my stick and pushed myself back into the flow of people.

"Naruto?" I called.

Another person bumped into my shoulder and I stumbled back into someone else.

"Hey!" A stranger yelled at me. "Watch where you're going!"

"I'm sorry. I—"

A hand rested on my shoulder and the smell of ramen and wood filled my senses.

"The kid can't see. Take it easy on him, would ya?"

I heard the stranger huff before their footsteps walked off in the other direction.

"Thanks," I said.

"What the heck are you doing here!" Naruto's voice spoke up. "Alone too!"

"I left the village the same time as Sasuke. I'm trying to get to the Land of Sound."

A deep chuckle came from the man with Naruto. The same man who had just defended me. "You're a little far off. Why don't you join us? We're travelling around with no real destination in mind, and I've never been to the Land of Sound before."

"Yeah! It'll be nice to have someone else who isn't the pervy sage as company!"

A small smile turned up the corner of my mouth. "Sure. I don't see why not."

We arrived in the Land of Sound a week after I joined Naruto and Master Jiraiya. It wasn't at all what I had expected. In my mind I had imagined a lovely place with people like me, but after hearing the way Master Jiraiya described our surroundings, I noticed how wrong I was.

"Well, at least this place has a lot of hot springs," Jiraiya said, and I could hear him rubbing the palms of his hands together.

Naruto groaned. "Is that all you think about? You perverted sage!"

I tuned out their bickering, a skill I learned being on a team with Jin and Amari, and listened closely to the sounds around us.

There wasn't much. Other than the whistle of the wind and the swaying of the trees, it was eerily silent.

"Hah! This one looks pleasurable!" Jiraiya spoke up, and I bumped into his back when he stopped walking.

"What's pleasurable?" I asked.
