|YOU|

"(Y/N) sensei, what are we going to tell them?" Jin asked, concern evident in his voice.

"Sorry, even though you paid us to safely escort your daughter, we let her get kidnapped. Oh, but they also took one of our teammates, so it's even," Amari answered sarcastically.

I ignored both of them. I didn't have the patience to deal with their squabbling at the moment, and I didn't have the time to explain the thoughts running through my head either.

It was rare for a D-ranked mission to fall through. It was even more rare for such highly skilled shinobi to sabotage a low ranked mission. However, when it did happen it usually had more to do with the purchaser and less to do with the hired shinobi.

The team and I reached the address we were supposed to bring Amora to, and I knocked on the door.

The house wasn't what you'd expect a wealthy merchant to live in. The white paint on the walls was chipped and peeling, showing off the worn wood underneath. Even the stairs and archways were bowed and worn from years of use.

Creaking, the front door opened to reveal an overly plump and stout man.

"Are you Asahi Yung?" I asked.

"That would be me. Are you the leaf shinobi bringing me my daughter?"

Behind me, I could feel Amari and Jin getting anxious. "Actually sir, that's what we're here to speak with you about. Amora and my student were taken by kidnappers early the s'morning."

Amora's father flung the front door open to fully reveal himself. He was dressed in loose, grey pants with a white shirt that had a large hole near the hemline. He definitely didn't look as if he was a successful business owner, and that little fact made the cogs start turning in my head.

"You lost my daughter?" Mr Yung's voice cracked like a whip and his eyes narrowed accusingly. "How do you expect me to pay you, or even respect you, when you can't fulfil the simplest task! She's my only child!"

As fooled as Amari and Jin were by the act in front of us, I didn't buy it. His tone sounded angry and upset, but his body language didn't tell the same story.

"Do you know who could have taken your daughter, Mr Yung?" I asked.

"No. Isn't that your job? To know where she is and protect her?"

"Sir, that's not what I asked. I was hoping you could give me any information on her kidnappers that could potentially help us find them." Amari looked up at me, a confused expression on his face.

"I said isn't that your job? How would I know anything about who took my daughter when I wasn't even there?" He asked, crossing his arms over his chest.

I glanced at his crossed arms then back up to his narrowed gaze. He was uncomfortable. My plan was working.

"I think you know more than you're letting on. From what I've seen, I'm thinking you hired those guys to kidnap your daughter so that you could be reimbursed and compensated by the Hidden Leaf. That way your business won't go under, you'll have your daughter back and everybody wins, right?" I asked accusingly. "I completely get it. If I was in your situation I might even do the same thing."

"I didn't hire them!" The man defended.

Amari smirked at my side, realizing exactly what I did. Jin on the other hand was completely oblivious.

"Oh. Then what did you do, Mr Yung?"

Amora's father looked up and down the street before stepping away from the doorway. "Come in and I'll explain everything. Just keep your voices down."

I gave him a nod and walked into the small house, my two students on my heels.

"Where did you learn to do that?" Amari asked, intrigued.

"Do what?" Jin added, gaining an eye roll from his teammate.

"Of course you didn't notice, meathead. She backed Mr Yung into a corner so that he would trip over his own lie and tell the truth."

Jin's mouth dropped open. "Ohh~ I get it."

"Good job, bird brain."

Jin shot Amari a glare and I flicked both of them on the nose. "Behave."

Amora's father lead us to his kitchen where we all sat around the dining table. Once we were all seated he rubbed his face and let out a long sigh before beginning his explanation.

"As you can tell from my attire, my company hasn't been doing good," he said, gesturing to himself. "I took out a loan or two trying to stay afloat until the slow season ended, but that didn't happen. Instead, the flow of customers slowly depleted and as it did I continued to take out loan after loan even though I was barely able to make the minimum payments."

"Who were you borrowing money from?" Amari asked.

Asahi let out another long breath. "Because of the terrible standing my business was in, and the fact that I already had outstanding debt, no bank would give me a cent. The only other options I had were to go bankrupt-"

"Or turn to loan sharks," I stated.

I could see how embarrassed he was. Going from a wealthy merchant who had everything and anything he could ask for, then being knocked down to a low class civilian with thousands of dollars in debt must've been a big hit to his pride.

"Yes. And now they took my daughter and won't give her back until I pay back everything I owe."

"Why didn't you hire a more experienced group of shinobi? This mission could easily be a C or even B ranked," I explained.

"I can barley afford 5,000 to pay the group of you. Do you really think I'd be able to pay up to 150,000? I made the assumption that some protection was better than none."

I stood front my seat and started pacing the kitchen. "We're going to have to call in a more elite group to handle the situation. I'll have to send word to the Hokage as soon as possible."

"Didn't you hear me," Asahi asked. "I can't afford anything better than you three."

"There was actually four of us," Jin spoke up, glaring at the man. "The other one was taken with your daughter."

I nodded. "Exactly, and because of that this mission isn't about you and your daughter any more. It's about recovering Kamina."

"We're not going after him ourselves?" Jin asked.

I shook my head. "No. This mission wasn't even meant for newbie genin in the first place."

"What? But weren't you the one who said that no matter what we have to rely on our teammates? We can't just abandon Kamina," Amari argued.

"He's right," Jin nodded. "You told us that even though we don't like each other, we still have to trust each other. Kamina is somewhere out there right now trusting us to save him."

I knew I was supposed to say no. Taking genin on a mission where there was a chance of loss of life was a big risk, especially when four of the lives at stake were under the age of twelve. That being said, it was hard to say no when this was the first time Amari and Jin acted like a cohesive unit.

I let out a long sigh. "I can't guarantee you'll be safe."

Jin's face lit up. "You're going to let us go?"

"On the condition that if I think it's too dangerous and tell you two to bail, you do it. Understand?"

Amari and Jin both had big grins plastered across their faces.

"Now Mr Yung, can you give us as much information on these loan sharks as you can?"
