My pen hovered over the line at the bottom of the paper. Kakashi had already signed, but both our names had to be put down in order for everything to be legal.
"Are you sure about this?" I asked him. "This is a bit more than we had anticipated."
Kakashi reached over and gave my hand a reassuring squeeze. "We've done all the overnight stays and the weekend visits. I think we're both ready."
His eyes squinted with a smile and I felt a reassuring warmth rush through me. It gave me the confidence I needed to sign my name on the dotted line.
The man behind the desk took the paper and added it to the stack in front of him, stamping it with a bright red seal. A wide grin stretched across his face when it was done.
"It's common to be nervous. It's a big commitment that takes a lot of thought; however, I'm sure the hokage and the sensei of the Blind Assassin of the Leaf can handle it just fine." Once he was finished he gestured behind us.
The double doors entering the room were wide open, and standing behind us were two little girls. They were both four years old, with flaming red hair and deep, brown eyes. Although they looked almost exactly alike, their personalities couldn't be more different.
Mika was the more fiery one, with long hair that was pulled back in a ponytail. She stood in a wide stance with her arms crossed, always ready to put herself between an enemy and her sister. The other was Mei. Her demeanour was more shy than her sisters. She was soft spoken and incredibly polite, and unlike her sister her hair was cropped just below her chin.
Mei gave us a soft smile and a wave.
"You girls ready to go home?" I asked them, feeling a little shy myself.
Mei walked around her sister and happily skipped over to Kakashi and I. She stood between us and took each of our hands.
The action made my heart squeeze. She was too cute to handle.
I glanced at Mika who refused to look at us. Her bottom lip was stuck out in a pout.
"I would love if you held my hand too, Mika," I spoke. Instead of embarrassing her by asking if she wanted to hold my hand, I figured wording it the way I did was a better idea.
"I guess if you really want me to," she answered, walking over and holding her hand out to me.
"Thank you. It makes me happy."
The little girl blushed and looked away from me, but didn't pull her hand away.
Together the four of us left the orphanage and made the slow walk back to our home. Kakashi and I had stayed in his apartment for a couple years before deciding to purchase a bigger house together. After the war, starting fresh seemed like a good idea. It was also a good idea to find a place with more bedrooms after we decided to one day grow our family. Although, twins were not what we originally had in mind.
When we reached our house, Kakashi and I let the girls run ahead and open the door themselves.
"Surprise!"
Both girls stopped in their tracks, staring at the group of people in the living room.
Both my team and Kakashi's, as well as Guy and Kurenai, gathered to meet the girls.
