"He's so strong. How am I supposed to catch up?" Naruto spoke, not touching the bowl of ramen in front of him.

A few weeks ago Naruto and his new team -lead by Yamato- had attempted a second recovery mission for Sasuke. They were successful in finding him, but he had power and skill that no one had anticipated. Seeing his old teammate and rival at a level much higher than his own gave Naruto a new burst of determination in his training.

"You have a unique skill," I began. "When you create shadow clones, each one has different experiences and learns new skills, all of which return to you when your shadow clones disappear."

"Really?"

The level of surprise in his voice was off putting. "You've never noticed that?"

Naruto responded but I tuned him out. My eye caught sight of (Y/N)'s (H/C) hair and I turned around to watch her.

She moved slowly, taking frequent, small breaks and bracing herself on the buildings along the road. I hadn't seen her since our last mission, but she looked well. She still wasn't able to stand completely straight because of the stitches along her stomach, and her hair was unkept, but she was up and moving which was good to see.

"You should go talk to her."

I looked back at Yamato who was sitting on the other side of Naruto.

"Why would I? We have nothing to do with each other anymore."

"Maybe not," Yamato shrugged. "But she's still someone you care about, and from the look of it she could use someone's help right about now."

"If she wasn't healthy and ready to be up and moving, she wouldn't be. It is good to see her recovery is going well though."

As we spoke Naruto kept looking back and forth between us. He looked over his shoulder and as soon as he saw (Y/N) he jumped up and ran towards her. I watched as he held out his hand to help her, and surprisingly she took the help even though she looked as it it left a bad taste in her mouth.

Yamato smirked. "That could have been you."

"Why would I want it to be me?"

"It's none of my business, but everyone now knows the two of you were together for two years. I don't think feelings like that go away so quickly."

"You're right." I nodded, seeing the look of satisfaction on his face. "It is none of your business."

Yamato's expression fell into an unimpressed frown. "That sounds like denial to me."

I fully spun around in my chair, resting my elbows on the counter behind me. (Y/N) and Naruto were barely visible anymore, disappearing into the swarms of people.

I sighed. "I messed up."

"So you are talking about it?" Yamato asked.

My brow twitched slightly and I glared in Yamato's direction.

"I see. You are if I shut my mouth."

I stayed silent for awhile, trying to sort through my thoughts to find exactly what I wanted to say. "I'm not good with feelings —expressing them anyway— but I felt the best I ever have in those two years. Yet she was miserable."

The slurp of Yamato eating his own ramen snapped me out of my thoughts and I whipped back around in my chair. "Never mind. This is ridiculous."

"Being in tune with how you feel isn't ridiculous, which is probably the sappiest thing I've ever said." Yamato placed his chopsticks on the counter. "What is ridiculous is you sacrificing your and her happiness."
