"This is so awesome! We're finally taking on a real mission," Jin said happily, running ahead of the rest of us.

"Don't get too excited," I laughed. "D-ranked missions are usually pretty uneventful."

Jin spun on his heals. "The key word it usually. There's a chance we'll get something totally awesome."

"Exactly how many times are you going to say awesome?" Amari grumbled.

"Exactly as many times as I want."

I sighed and watched as the two tweens stuck their tongues out at each other.

"All right you two, that's enough. This is your first chance to use your skills and prove yourselves. Don't start it off by picking at one another."

The four of us arrived outside the Hokage's office and were lead inside by one of the Anbu guards standing watch.

"Ah, (Y/N). How is your team doing?"

I gestured to the three children next to me. "Good enough to be standing here. I think they're ready for their first mission, Lord Third."

The Hokage gave a soft smile. "There is a Cloud Village merchant who left the Leaf over a week ago. His daughter stayed behind to attend a gathering, but now I need the four of you to escort her home safely. Do you think they'll be able to handle it?"

"Yes, Lord Third."

"The four of you will be leaving this evening. Take the afternoon to prepare and a guard will meet you at the front gates with your client," he finished.

I bowed and my team, with the exception of Kamina, followed my lead.

Reaching over, I lightly tapped on the back of Kamina's hand, gaining his attention.

"Bow," I whispered.

The genin did as told.

"You are dismissed," the Hokage said.

I tugged on the sleeve of Kamina's shirt and he followed closely behind us.

"You all heard the Hokage. Go home and pack your bags. We leave in a couple hours, don't be late."

Jin gave a single-finger salut. "You got it!"

Amari didn't give me so much as a goodbye before leaving towards his own home.

"You okay on your own?" I asked the remaining member of my team.

"Yes," Kamina said, turning to walk away.

Taking a step towards my own apartment, I hesitated. My curiosity was known to get the better of me and this was no different. Kamina was so quiet and guarded that I didn't have the slightest clue on how to connect with him.

Jin was carefree and bubbly, making him easy to get along with and easy to teach. Amari was hotheaded, but had a determination that drove him to be a better shinobi. They were both easy enough to understand and it made my job as their sensei that much easier. However, Kamina wasn't as simple. He never spoke enough for me to get a feel of his personality.
