~Three Days Later~"Are you sure you're all better, Kakashi?" Tsunami, Tazuna's daughter asked.
"I think I'll be fine, thank you. Naruto on the other hand might be asleep for most of the day. He exhausted himself training over the last few days."
I hobbled over to the group on my crutches. "We'll keep an eye on him. You guys just worry about protecting the old man."
"Hey," Tazuna defended. "I'm not that old."
Kakashi chuckled. "We'll be back for dinner. See ya."
Kakashi, followed by most of our students with the exception of Kamina and Naruto, left for the bridge to protect Tazuna as he worked. The rest of us stayed behind due to injury or exhaustion.
Once the group was out of sight, Tsunami and I made our way back into the house.
"He's very handsome," she spoke as soon as I was seated in the kitchen.
"Who is?"
She glanced at me over her shoulder. "Your fellow jonin."
"Kakashi? I mean I guess. He's pretty popular among the young girls back in the village. I've never heard of him dating anyone before, but I'm sure if you showed interest he'd be a gentleman about it."
Tsunami giggled and turned away from her dishes, drying her hands on her apron. "No, not for me. My heart will always belong to my late husband. I was talking about for you."
"Oh." Heat rushed to my face. "I never really—"
"I over slept—!" The bedroom door slid open, revealing a disheveled Naruto. "—and they left without me!"
"Good morning to you too," I greeted.
Naruto reached in front of me to grab a bun off the dining table, stuffing it in his mouth before running out the door.
"He's loud."
I looked back in the direction of the bedroom to see Kamina standing in the doorway. His hair stuck up on one side, and dried saliva was crusted at the corner of his mouth from drooling in his sleep.
"How's your head feeling?" I asked.
Kamina came over to sit next to me. "Still hurts, but better."
While training, Kamina had taken a tumble which ended with him having a massive goose egg on the top of his head. Nothing serious, but Kakashi and I decided it was best for him to take a day to rest.
"Like I was saying," Tsunami continued. "No one chooses to be just friends with a man as handsome as that."
"Who?" Kamina asked.
"No one," I snapped back suspiciously fast, fire burning under my skin.
"No need to be embarrassed," she teased. "I'm sure your students would be happy for you if you decided to start a relationship."
My head felt like it was spinning. I had never tried pining after Kakashi in a romantic way. He had the most gorgeous and talented girls in Konoha at his disposal. In my mind, all I could ask him for was his friendship.
"Relationship with who?" Kamina asked.
Tsunami opened her mouth to reply, but was interrupted when the wall next to us shook and crumbled to the floor.
Two men entered through the hole in the wall, emerging over the pile of wood and brick. They both had menacing looks of their faces and swords in their hands.
I tapped Kamina twice on the hand to alert him of what was happening.
"You must be Tazuna's daughter. Sorry to barge in, but you're coming with us," one of them said.
I jumped up from the floor as fast as my sore body would let me and took a fighting stance in front of Tsunami.
"Kamina, find Inari."
He didn't hesitate, running deeper into the house to find the young boy.
"We only need one hostage," one of the men said.
The other grew a devilish grin. "Then I guess we just have to kill the rest."
Both attackers rushed me, forcing me to take quick action. I grabbed the first mans wrist and twisted so that his sword fell from his hand. My stitches stretched from my actions and pain shot up my side.
"Tsunami, the sword!"
Tazuna's daughter looked to where the weapon had fallen and lunged for it.
"I don't think so," the other attacker chided, hitting Tsunami on the back of the head and sending her to the ground.
"No! Mom!"
I looked over to see Kamina holding Inari tight. His attempts to keep the young boy away didn't seem to be working quite as well as he'd hoped.
One of the men grinned wickedly. "Wow, the grandson too."
"Don't lay a hand on him!"
"Naruto!" Inari cheered.
"Sorry for being late," the blond said. "But hero's are supposed to show up late."
I rolled my eyes. "Focus, Naruto."
"Right!"
Naruto attacked one of the enemy samurai while I went for the other. I chose to give one swift punch to the temple to knock out my opponent, while Naruto chose a round house kick.
"Wow! How did you even know the samurai were here?" Inari asked Naruto, running to his side as soon as Kamina released him.
"I noticed something wasn't right so I came back."
Naruto had a smug look on his face and Inari ate it right up.
"You're like a ninja!"
"Idiot, I am a ninja!"
Turning my attention away from the young boys, I knelt down next to Tsunami and lifted her into my arms.
She was unconscious, but her breathing was steady. A good sign.
I carried her to her room and laid her on a mattress. Once I made sure she was comfortable and the adrenaline wore off, I finally felt the pulsating pain in my side.
Lifting my shirt, I could see blood soaking through my bandages.
"Crap."
Kamina came into the room behind me. "Sensei? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," I said, reflexively pulling my shirt down over my wound.
"Naruto left for the bridge. He left us with the two samurai."
I let out a long sigh. "Let's tie them up and get rid of their weapons. We'll follow Naruto to the bridge."
"But sensei, you're still injured," Kamina said in a concerned tone.
"That doesn't matter. My gut is telling me that those two samurai were sent here by Gato. If I'm right, then that means Zabuza is probably at the bridge. We need to get there and help fight him."
Kamina nodded.
"Good. Grab your things. We're leaving right away."
