~One Year Later~I rolled out of bed, stretching my arms above my head and letting out a wide yawn. Not bothering to put on any clothes, I walked out into Kakashi's kitchen in nothing but a tank top and my underwear.
"Morning," I greeted as I sat down at the dining table.
Kakashi laid two bowls of oatmeal out in front of us, but before he sat down he took my head in his hands and planted a soft kiss on my forehead.
"Morning."
I sighed happily and let my eyes travel over Kakashi's bare chest. He wasn't wearing his mask. In fact, the only piece of clothing he was wearing were his tight, green boxers.
"Do you have a mission today?" I asked.
Kakashi shovelled oatmeal into his mouth and shook his head. "No."
"Good! That means we can spend the day together."
Kakashi swallowed the food in his mouth and leaned back in his chair, watching me for a moment as I ate.
"We agreed we'd only go out together once a week. That way no one will suspect anything."
A deep frown pulled at my lips. "We made that agreement over two years ago, Kakashi. Things are going well between us, or at least I think so. We shouldn't have to hide this anymore."
The man next to me dropped his spoon in his now empty bowl and stayed silent as he brought the dirty dish over to the sink.
"I'm just not ready yet."
My chest suddenly felt heavy and I pushed my nearly full bowl into the middle of the table. "I should get ready to go."
Kakashi reached out and grabbed my hip. "Are you going home?"
I shook my head. "I'm meeting Amari and Jin for lunch."
"Okay. Give me a second to clean up and I'll walk you."
I didn't respond and made my way to his bedroom to get ready.
He was able to walk me to lunch, but couldn't spend the day with me?
In two years, Kakashi and I had created what I would consider a normal relationship. However, in those two years he still refused to tell anyone about us. He also never made any advances to take what we had to the next level. I still only had a drawer at his place that had only the bare necessities for over night stays.
I would be lying if I said it didn't bother me, but there wasn't anything I could do.
I threw on a pair of sweats and a t-shirt from my drawer and quickly brushed through my hair before heading back out into the main living area.
"Ready?" Kakashi asked.
He was already clad in his mask and uniform that must have been in the bathroom from last night.
I couldn't help but feel disappointed. Every time he put his mask back on I longed to see his face again.
The two of us left his apartment and headed down the street in the direction of the barbecue joint I was meeting my team at. Neither of us spoke. Kakashi was good at noticing when I needed my space and time to think, and I was thankful he wasn't pushing me to be social at the moment.
Once we reached the restaurant I waved over my shoulder at Kakashi. This was our drill, our routine. No one was allowed to know about our relationship, so when we arrived places together we had to act indifferent. Which was easy for me right now considering I wasn't Kakashi's biggest fan this morning.
