Chapter 23: Stairs

After Tsukishima's shift ended he was on his way back to the apartment when he saw Kuroo struggling with holding five bags full of groceries. He's walked up to Kuroo and took two bags from him.

"Thanks," Kuroo said as they started to walk towards the elevator.

"So how was your trip?" Tsukishima asked Kuroo as they stood in silence waiting for the elevator.

"It was 'amazing'." Kuroo replied.

"What was so 'amazing' about it?" Tsukishima asked making small talk as they waited for the elevator.

"It's a huge shop. Yamaguchi and I nearly got lost!" Kuroo exclaimed to which Tsukishima just shook his head in amusement.

"Twenty something year old men got lost in a grocery store...that must've been quite an announcement."

"That's what the guy said." Kuroo muttered but Tsukishima heard him.

"What?!" Tsukishima exclaimed.

"I'm joking, I'm joking." Kuroo laughed. "You should come too."

"I was at work." Tsukishima replied dryly.

"Oh yeah, how's it going." Kuroo asked.

"Not bad." Tsukishima replied.

"Learned how to use the coffee machines."

"Yeah," Tsukishima sighed. "When will this damned elevator come?"

Kuroo laughed.

"If your arms are hurting I can-" Kuroo started but was cut of by Tsukishima.

"I'm fine thank you."

Silence.

They stood there for what felt like ten minutes before Kuroo sighed and started walking towards the stairs.

"Come on," Kuroo called out to Tsukishima. "Let's take the stairs."

Tsukishima sighed he really didn't want to use the stairs he was already pretty exhausted from work plus they're on the sixth floor.

"Fine." Tsukishima just followed Kuroo silently.

"So...." Kuroo said "how's life?"

"It's alright." Tsukishima replied.

"So what're your hobbies?" Kuroo asked trying to make a conversation.

"Sleeping..." Tsukishima replied.

"Sleeping? Well I guess that's everyone's hobby at your age." Kuroo replied.

Tsukishima clicked his tongue.

"What?" Kuroo asked.

"Why do you talk like you're like a Dad?"

"What do you mean?" Kuroo asked confused.

"You always talk like you're some wise old fart." Tsukishima replied.

"Ouch, I am older than you."

"23 doesn't make you that old." Tsukishima replied following Kuroo to the next floor.

"How'd you know I'm 23?" Kuroo asked catching Tsukishima off guard.

"I don't know, I'm assuming cause you're a graduate." Tsukishima replied as he brought the bags up to told them like a baby because his arms had started to hurt carrying them the way he has been.

"Oh," Kuroo let out turning around he saw Tsukishima struggling and took one of the bags from him.

"Hey," Tsukishima called out. "I was managing it."

"I could see that." Kuroo replied chuckling making Tsukishima get a bit pissed off.

"Whatever...break your arms for all I care." Tsukishima huffed.

"Rather break mine than your pretty ones-" Kuroo stopped himself mid sentence and mentally smacked himself.

Silence.

"So what's your hobby?" Tsukishima asked cutting through the awkward silence.

"Playing volleyball." Kuroo replied.

"That's why you're coaching the volleyball team?" Tsukishima asked Kuroo.

"With coaching I get to play here and there too so it's fun." Kuroo sighed. "It's not like the old days though, I miss those."

"Why didn't you pursue volleyball then?" Tsukishima asked.

"Dunno..." Kuroo looked up at the next stake case and sighed. "Probably because I only wanted to play with my team..."

"Why don't you do one of those 10years reunion things?" Tsukishima asked Kuroo.

"OH MY GOD THATS AN AWESOME IDEA!" Kuroo exclaimed. "I'LL MESSAGE BOKUTO, KENMA AND THE OTHERS!"

Silence....

"Would you play?" Kuroo asked Tsukishima after a pause.

"I haven't played since hight school days." Tsukishima replied.

It would be nice to play again though....

Tsukishima thought to himself.

"Finally!" Kuroo exclaimed making Tsukishima look up they'd reached their floor.

Standing outside their apartment door Kuroo fiddled in his pocket trying to get his keys to the apartment.

"Here, let me." Tsukishima said as he reached to take two bags from Kuroo.

"I'm alright-" Kuroo declined the offer still struggling.

"Just let me-" Tsukishima cut Kuroo off snatching a bag from Kuroo making another fall out of Kuroo's hand.

Tsukishima picked up the bag and Kuroo finally found the key in his pocket and opened the door.

"You should really put a keychain on that thing or you're gonna lose it." Tsukishima said seeing the key was without a keychain like just plain diver key.

Putting down the groceries on the counter Tsukishima offered to help Kuroo out with unpacking the groceries.

While doing so Tsukishima put his hand in one of the brown bags to feel something icky and slimy and pulled out his hand immediately.

"Ewww," Tsukishima said "what is that?" Tsukishima asked as Kuroo checked the brown bag.

"Rip." Kuroo said as he picked up the bag and walked towards the bin.

"Rip the eggs."
