Tap. Tap. Tap.

I slowly opened my eyes but my head's throbbing so badly I took a moment closed my eyes again and listened.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

There goes that sound again. I know I'm lying in a cold damp floor and I know I am chained from my right foot based on the heavy and restricting metal on my ankle.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

I finally realized that the sound was from a water dripping somewhere near me. I'm slowly regaining my consciousness and alertness while staying still and just listening. When I was certain that I'm alone I slowly opened my eyes and adjusted to the dark place. I slowly forced my self to sit while trying to remember who the guy was.

A door was opened forcing light into the room I was in making me wince but now I know who the guy reaching out to me before I passed out.

"How long was I out?" I asked sharply. I'm too pissed and surprised that being scared didn't even crossed my mind.

He winced at my tone but answered nevertheless. "About an hour if you only just woke up."

I pondered on this. I guess it won't be long. "Why Nathan?" I asked. I never thought he'd be into this.

"I'm sorry Skye. My family is close to bankruptcy." He said nothing else after that and stared everywhere but me. I know he feels guilty with just how he looks and acts.

"Just let me go Nathan and I'll help your family." I said but I know that's highly unlikely. I know he wouldn't thought of kidnapping me to make money and someone must be the brains to this.

"I'm really sorry Skye. Just do whatever they want and you won't get hurt." He started to leave and head to the door. I didn't call him and stayed silent.

Ten minutes or so in the room and the door opened again. More footsteps can be heard and the loud clicking of high heeled shoes dominated the sounds.

I sighed. I guess this is it. I remained silent my head bowed. Someone must've switched the lights on because before I knew it the room was basked in blinding light.

"Well well, would you look at that. Little old Skye looking so miserable." The unmistakable voice of Miranda made me raise my head.

Miranda, Coleen, Nathan and a bunch of goon-looking men surrounded me. I'm guessing there are others outside the room also.

"Hey Miranda." I said nonchalantly.

"Don't be so arrogant my dear step daughter cause it won't be long before you're begging me for mercy." She said smugly.

"Okay." I agreed and even nodded just to piss her a bit.

"In a minute we'll be calling your father to inform him that his daughter was stupid enough to get herself in trouble." Miranda started walking around me while talking.

"Yeah, that's awesome. Call him Miranda and you know tell him like, hey honey, how are you? by the way I kidnapped your daughter and I need you to give me money, blah blah blah." I mocked.

She angrily marched in front of me and grabbed a handful of my hair. "You think I'm stupid? Just wait till our plans are executed. You and your family will be left with nothing! I'm going to take everything from you!" She was screaming at my face the whole time.

She takes a deep breath and stood up. When she has calmed down I asked. "Miranda why are you doing all this? Why do you hate me so much?"

"Because you shouldn't even be born and alive! Your mother took everything away from me!" She spat, her gaze full of hatred.

"What does my mother got to do with all of this?" She's not making any sense.

"Allow me to enlighten you. Your mother and I were best of friends in college. Everyone loves her, adored her and me? I'm the shadow. I'm the poor girl who follows your mother like a puppy. Nobody see's me for who I really am. All they saw was this poor little gold digger leeching herself on the good rich girl." She obviously hates reminiscing the past for her eyes were blazing with utmost hatred and it is directed to me.

I remained silent and waited for her to finish her story. The longer she takes the more time for Light to find coz I know they will find me sooner rather than later.

"I saw him first. Your father." She said contemplating. "I was at the library waiting for your mother when he approached me and we talked. He was the first person who treated me better than anybody else. The longer we talked the harder I fall. But all of that were lost when he saw your mother." She raised her hand and slapped me on my left cheek. I instantly tasted blood but I held up from making any sound.

"That is for your mother stealing your father away from me!" She raised her hand and slapped me again.

"And that is for everything your mother took away from me!" She was shouting now.The veins on her neck and forehead were visible and her eyes were so full of hatred and ill disguised jealousy.

I kept silent and waited. I know it won't be long before they find. I can feel. And maybe so does Miranda. She has this crazed look about her. Unlike Coleen who looks so smug right now.

All I have to do is survive until they find me. I can almost see the gray hairs my father must've gotten in the last weeks what with my grandparents' accident and my kidnapping.

Miranda and a guy are talking now debating on calling my father. After a few minutes, Miranda handed the guy a phone and went near me.

"Here's what you'll gonna do. I want you to stay silent and when he tells you to speak, don't ever mention anything that can clue your father into thinking I'm connected to this." She whispered while pointing at the guy whose busy typing on the phone.

He must've called my father for I heard his voice on the now silent room.

"If the money isn't delivered in an hour your daughter looses a finger." He immediately says that should have me bawling my eyes out but I forced myself to calm down. They couldn't have taken me far and I know that a lot of people are looking for me at this moment.

The guy suddenly sticks the phone in my ear and I heard my father on the other line. "Hello?" He asked sounding anxious and tired.

"Dad?" I asked.

"Skye! Is that you honey? Are you okay? Did they hurt you?"

"I'm fine Dad, just hurry-" I said in a rush when the guys snatched the phone away and tersely talked.

"One hour Mr. Duane or you know what your daughter looses." He ended the call not waiting to hear my father's response to the threat.

"Everything goes as planned. Are you sure your people won't get caught when they get the money?" Miranda asked immediately.

"We've been doing this for a long time Mrs. Duane, you don't have to worry. They usually don't believe us until they receive the first finger that they realize we meant business." The guy smirked. There is something sinister about him and I could only imagine what this guy do in his pastime.

"Good good." Miranda nodded when a sound interrupted her.

"What's that?" She asked panicked.

"Stay here." He only said and went out leaving me, Miranda, Coleen, Nathan and a few guys who now held their guns ready to kill anyone who comes their way.
