The rest of the week was pure hell. It doesn't matter where, be it at school or at the house. One of the things I enjoy in life is eating and to be forbidden to eat on the house is just plain torture. Coleen may not be at school at the moment but I can still feel her wrath with her friends.
I don't get why they follow Coleen around like dogs considering her attitude but I guess money talks to people better than personality. Almost all the people here thought that Coleen is dad's heir. They didn't even know that I am her step sister. All they know is that Coleen hates me and does everything in her power to make my life more miserable with each passing days.
The teachers were of no help sometimes because even them thought of her as the heir and is afraid of the consequence if they don't favor her whims.
I know that Light knows about me and Coleen. His parents are a long time friends of my parents. In fact we were playmates when we were just kids. We just stopped playing together when my mom died and dad had forbidden me to go out and play.
Thinking about my dad made my mood a bit more sour by the minute. He stopped being a father a long time ago and I'm used to it but that doesn't mean that it doesn't hurt. I just learned not to deal with it and act like I didn't care one bit.
What father treats his daughter like a ghost. He even treats other people better than he does with me. Sometimes I wish my mom is still alive. Maybe he would've treated me right. Maybe he would've loved me even. Life really has a way of throwing you out of your element. One thing everything is just okay and the next you're out of your mind with all the problems you have.
Today's Friday and I'm looking forward this weekend because I found myself a job. A local library was in need of a helper and being the bookworm that I am and of course being a regular costumer, I got the job!
On my way outside for lunch, I easily spotted my favorite area. It's a bench with table like the others but is almost isolated because it's too far away from the others and that is how I just like it.
If you're wondering why I don't go to the cafeteria, well I have three reasons for that. First, the cafeteria food sucks. I'm a food lover and not even my eternal love for food makes me eat those disgusting things they cook. Second is that I have on one to seat with there and the tables there can seat about ten people and me seating alone is just plain agonizing especially if you are the number one bullied student in this school. Lastly, I have being stuck in a place where you will surely loose your appetite and me seeing Coleen with her sinister smile that always looks like she's planning something bad again does the trick.
I was in the middle of finishing my sandwich while reading my latest novel when a presence interrupted me. Looking up I saw Nathan smiling down at me.
"Yes?" As he still didn't talk, I gathered up my courage and asked.
"Can I sit here?" He asked pointing at the vacant seat near me.
"Um, yeah I guess."
"Cool! It's pretty crowded in the cafeteria so I thought I'd just eat here outside and look who I found!" He exclaimed sounding really excited.
"Uh, who?" I sounded unsure knowing full well that we haven't really interacted like this before.
He chuckled then said, "you of course!".
Hearing that, I all but responded with an awkward "oh".
"Your funny you know that? Other girls would have flirted with me immediately." Still chuckling, he opened his bag and got his lunch out.
Being in his presence, which is such an oddity, has made me loose my appetite. Knowing full well that I won't be eating tonight, I forced myself to finish my meal.
"You don't talk that much huh."
"Yeah, I guess. I never really had others to talk to here."
Something flashed in his eyes but was gone before I know what it is.
"Well you have me now. What do you say about being friends with me?"
To say that I was shocked was an understatement. He is Nathan for cheesecake! And who am I? I'm the nobody! I just stared at him in shock and I must have looked like an idiot because he started to laugh.
Of course when he laughed I started thinking that he must have been joking so I immediately looked down in shame. He must've realized his mistake coz he suddenly stopped laughing.
"Oh shit! I know what you're thinking and it is not that! I really want to be your friend. God I'm such an idiot!"
"Why?" I asked silently I didn't even know if he heard me.
"Listen, I've known you since we were kids and I haven't really seen anything you did to Coleen that will prove everything they say about you."
I was suddenly overwhelmed that someone really wanted to be friends with me. I never even thought that that would happen here in this school.
I smiled at him and offered my hand. "Friends."
He took my hand and shake while smiling broadly. "Friends."
