My friends arrived a little later after Light did and their presence lifted up my mood. Their banters helped lessen the heavy atmosphere as the guys and Feiye continued to pester each other.
Apparently, they decided to just use the van which I called the mystery machine, and go to the hospital as one. They kept grumbling that Feiye took the longest time preparing and as she explained I can't help but smile at her.
"I just have to make sure I have everything I needed. Besides, I told mom and before I knew it she started preparing foods like mad. She said we shouldn't let my best friend starve herself to death. Then Uncle John said you didn't bring anything so I brought some clothes, toiletries so you can freshen up, a pillow and blanket since I don't trust hospitals-" She stopped talking and bringing out things out of her enormous bag when she heard me chuckle.
"You really are one of a kind." I hugged her and sighed.
"I'm so glad you are all here guys. It makes it more bearable." I said and remembered something. "You talked to my dad?" I suddenly asked Feiye.
She held her fingers in a peace sign while wearing a goofy smile. "We're close. You see, I give him tips on how to crack that wall you surround yourself with. He really wants to start over with you Skye and I think now more than ever do you guys need each other." She was serious when she finished talking and deep down I knew I was ready to start anew with my father. I was just afraid to initiate because I was always rejected by him and it made me cautious.
"You're the best friend I could ever ask for." I said tearing up.
"We were meant to be best of friends." Feiye said thick with emotion. "And you can bet your sorry ass that I will never leave you." She added jokingly and seriously at the same time.
We've been at the hospital for hours waiting for my grandparents' operation to be done. I've been to the hospital's chapel and prayed for my grandparent's successful operation. I begged for God's mercy like I've never begged before. My grandparents were old and I fear that their bodies might not survive the injuries.
After waiting for hours, a doctor entered the waiting room looking tired and exhausted. He asked for my grandparents family and my father and I immediately rushed to him.
"Are you Mr. and Mrs. Monroe's family?" The doctor asked.
"I'm their granddaughter." I answered nervously.
He smiled kindly at me and gave the news we've been waiting for. "The operation for both of them were successful although they are still not out of danger. Due to their advance age, their recovery might take longer and we have to monitor your grandmother's internal injuries as well as the swelling on your grandfather's brain. We have the both of them on induced coma for faster recovery." The doctor explained. The rush of relief and joy that their chance of survival and recovery is now higher almost made me hug the doctor. Instead, I hugged my father and breath a sigh of relief.
"Can we see them now?" I heard my father ask.
"Unfortunately Mr. Duane we will not be allowing visits in the intensive care unit because the risk of infection is high due to their low immune system. You can see them on the window and I promise you that once they are fit to have visitors we will inform you immediately." The doctor explained.
"Oh, okay. I'll see you later doctor if we have more questions. Thank you for everything." My father said offering his hand for a handshake. It was an awkward handshake since I'm still hugging my father and I'm in between both men.
When the doctor left I raised my head and looked at my father. "I want to see them dad. I need to see them."
"Sure thing honey." My father said softly. He went to take his phone while I approached my friends.
