CHAPTER 13

I'm eighteen today. This birthday means so much to me. It represents my freedom. I'll be leaving this hell of a house I'm living and hopefully be free of the witches.

It doesn't take a genius to see that I'm happy. My steps has a skip to them, I'm smiling even though the students are glaring at me. I didn't even care that Coleen pushed me hard on a wall. I'm just happy and she won't dim that happiness with her bullying.

We, the bad boys and I, will also let our friendship be known today. We won't be pretending to not know each other anymore which is a relief because it's hard to always see them and not be able to talk to them like we normally do. I can also introduce Feiye to them. I just know that they'll like her as well.

Nathan have been distant this week. I know that they're practicing almost everyday now but he usually drops by my locker at the end of classes but this past few days he just texted me and it feels like his aloof or hiding something.

With that in mind I went to class which I shared with the boys, Feiye, Nathan and Coleen. When I entered the room, Feiye is already seated beside my chair. Almost all the students are already in except of course the bad boys. As I sit down, Feiye immediately turned to me and greeted me.

"Happy birthday! I know I already greeted you this morning but it's better if it's in person, don't you think?"

"Thanks Feiye and yes, it is better in person."

"Oh! I'll give my gift on lunch break, it's in my locker." We both grinned at each other.

"Oh look, how sweet, it's our dear Skye's birthday today." Coleen sneered. The students chatter died down and they were listening and watching intently.

We didn't pay her any mind and continued talking to each other like we didn't hear her. This seems to fuel her anger more and turned to Nathan.

"Nathan did you know that it's Skyes' birthday today?" I stiffened because he hasn't greeted me and by his expression, I know he doesn't know.

Coleen let out an exaggerated gasp. "No! How sad, she clearly needs a dose of truth. Not everyone knows your birthday freak, not even your boyfriend”

"That's the best she got? I thought she'd be good. How disappointing." Feiye said in mock disappointment. I smiled and was thankful for her lightening my mood because knowing your boyfriend doesn't even know your birthday or doesn't even defend you from bullies is painful.

Coleen and the students were still laughing when the boys finally arrived. As usual they gawked at them, even Coleen, some skirts got higher, some sit straighter and some even appeared like they're trying to seduce the boys.

They walked towards me and the room grew silent. Light was the first to approach me. He smiled and I smiled, then he hauled me up to stand and hugged me. The loud gasps was heard but we didn't care.

"Happy birthday baby girl."

"I told you not to call me that." I frowned at him.

"But I never do what I'm told baby girl." He said smirking. I just rolled my eyes at him and then I was hugged from all side by the boys.

"Happy birthday baby girl!" They all but shout.

"Thank you guys! It means a lot!"

"We baked a cake for you, well Sam did." Greg said sheepishly.

That was the only time we noticed that the room was silent and everyone was looking at us. The boys glared at them and they cowered in their seats. Coleen seems to regain her bearing and asked.

"What are you doing with the freak?!"

We looked at her liked she's demented. Light was the first to answer her.

"Who are you?" He asked rather rudely. Coleen was again surprised she's imitating a fish out of water.

"You don't know me?" She all but squeaked.

"Should I?" Light raised his eyebrow.

"Well yeah! I'm Coleen Duane! I rule this school." She answered proudly.

"If you rule this school, how come we don't know you? Do you own the school?" Sam asked. Looking at the guys, they're all serious and almost glaring at her but I can see mischief in their eyes. I almost rolled my eyes at them.

"Well my dad donates tons of money in this school." Again with the proud answer.

"Your dad, are you by any chance talking about John Duane?" Connor asked.

"Yeah! We own the Duane empire." She smirked at me and it doesn't go unnoticed to the guys.

"I didn't know he has two daughters." Drew muttered but enough to be heard in the room. The room erupted in disbelief and Coleen almost looked panicky.

"W-well-"

"It doesn't matter, our families are friends of the Duane's. We conduct businesses together. It seems that Uncle John has moved on from Aunt Keira if he has another daughter. Your of same age as his daughter, are you a product of an affair perhaps?"Light cut her off and managed to embarrass her gravely.

"Maybe she's the daughter of the second wife." Aden piped in.

"Hmm, either she's a step daughter or the illegitimate daughter, either way, that does not make you the heir isn't?" Connor sneered. Coleen is visibly turning white and keeps on looking at the students.

We heard some of the students talking and asking if it's true because they thought Coleen is the one and only heir to the Duane empire.

"Holy shit! Did you pretend to be the heiress? You know that truth always comes out right? Man that's messed up if you ask me." Gordon seems to be having fun poking at Coleen. I just stood there watching, something tells me I shouldn't interfere.

"You should have had a fool proofed plan Connie, you didn't really think people don't know about the heiress didn't you? After all, you know how rich the Duane's are and they are bound to have many friends and associates even before the time you entered the story." Light seems to also be having as much fun as the other guys.

" It's Coleen." She weakly corrected.

The guys paid her no mind and turned to me. "We'll eat your cake at lunch baby girl, and bring your little friend if you want, ok?" Light kissed my forehead and went to his seat behind me. The other guys followed ahead after hugging or kissing my forehead.

This birthday of mine is turning out to be more epic than I have anticipated. Who knew my road to freedom would be more dramatic and even more shocking. My life, no matter how hard I tried to avoid drama and complications, is just as freaking full of it and add billions of dollars in it and it's one hell of rollercoaster ride.
