"Don't worry about that, I have y/n to guard me." He hums.
. . .
In town Obi starts to wander around. I keep close to him because like he said I'm technically supposed to be guarding him. I stay on the lookout for potential threats, but also scan the faces of people in the crowds.
Daichi, Jiro you both better be safe. I'll kill you if you aren't. As if fate itself heard me I see the familiar short auburn hair of the older twin.
"Mr Obi, do you mind if I speak to someone quickly?" He shakes his head and I gleefully run to my brother. I stop short seeing his posture. His slumped shoulders and dropped head are off the mark for him. He usually carries himself high and shows off his muscular build like a trophy.
Suddenly I doubt if it is him, because even in his worst days the brother I know would stand to show off.
"Brother?"
He flinches at my voice and mumbles "Y/n. . ." He straitens his shoulders and lifts his head before turning to around to face me and embraces me in a hug. "I'm glad to see you're alright!"
I search his face to find anything that might clue me in to his troubles. "How have you been fairing in the green?"
"I have been well, and you?" His voice gives nothing away.
"Same goes for me. Is something on your mind?"
He's apprehensive about what he says next, "Let's go somewhere, it's been so long."
"Mr Obi, do you mind?" He shakes his head and follows after us.
We go into a tavern and sit at a table. It's late morning now, so it is relatively empty. I sit across from Daichi and Obi takes the stool next to me.
"Who's this, y/n?" Daichi points to Obi.
"A friend of mine, we are visiting the idiot prince."
"You're visiting princes?"
"Yeah, I'm the Second Prince of Clarines's aide now. I'm sure you've noticed by now the stories in the village were just that"
His expression grows dark as he says, "Yes, the real monsters aren't on the outside."
"What do you mean?"
"I've been so worried about you. You need to watch out because-" his dark expression forcibly lightens. "I know this is a competition and all, but we should stay together until the end!"
"Why?" I question.
"I want to protect you." He's acting so strange, like he's on edge or nervous.
Oh, I didn't notice before because I was glad to see him but, "Where is Jiro?"
His eyes flicker back to dark for an instant. "He's out buying food, we both got jobs and I was on the way back from mine when we ran into each other. I work at night, you see."
"I would have imagined you two to get the same job. I find it hard to believe you stay apart for so long." I ponder aloud.
"We had to afford an apartment somehow. Trust me, I don't like it either."
"Brother, look at me." He's been staring past me this whole time. As if he doesn't want to make eye contact, or want to look down and appear weak. He hesitantly looks at me, but not in my eyes, "I love you, and worry for you. Can you tell me what's bothering you?"
