Chapter 43: Her last night

Week later

Hailey's POV
I am really sad that it is Faiths last night here, I am going to really miss her but I know that it would be selfish and unfair of me to ask her to stay longer. She decided that we should go out for some drinks before she goes home tomorrow so I said that we could go to Mollys. I look sort of dressed up tonight but still a bit causal. I wore a pair of light blue jeans with a white blouse and white trainers. Over it I had my black jacket on and just did some subtle make up. I look at myself in the mirror before I hearing Faith shout at me. "Right it's 8:20pm and dark outside so hurry up Hails" I hear Faith shout from down stairs. I chuckle at her attitude. "Okay I'm coming" I say as I walk down stairs to see her standing in the kitchen with Jay. "You two be careful okay and don't be out to late. Call me when you want picked up." Jay says as I walk over to him. "we won't don't worry, Bye I love you" I say as I kiss him goodbye. "I love you too" he says with a smile. I walk over to Faith and we leave the house. We walk down the steps and she links her arm in mine.

"It's so beautiful, I forgot it was this beautiful" Faith says as we walk through Chicago. "I know the lights in the night are always amazing" I say. "Ohh I have really missed you Hails, it's like I have been missing a part of me" she says as she rests her head on my shoulder for a second. "I know me too" I say as I look up at her, "i really wished you don't have to go back" I say sadly. "I know but I will definitely be visiting more often and we will need to discuss this wedding of yours" she laughs and I look down at the ring. "I can't believe it, your engaged" she chuckles excitedly. "I know I can't really believe it either" I chuckle. After walking for a bit we finally make it to Molly's. When we walk in we are welcomed by 51. We take a set at the bar and Stella gets us some drinks. We all start chatting with each other as we drink our drinks.

11:37pm

Hailey's POV
Molly's was now closing up and Faith and I were on our last beers. I have had a great night with her and 51, we were all just laughing, telling stories and dancing along to the music. I've got some really nice photos with her but I think that it is time to call it a night. I pay for our drinks and walk back over to Faith. "Better call Jay" I say. "No I don't want to wake Jay, why don't we just walk?" She asks. "Okay sure" I say. She gets up from her stool. "Bye ladies!" Herman says cheerfully as we start to head out. "Bye guys!" Faith shouts back as we head outside into the cold breeze.

"I had a lot fun Hailey" she chuckles we both walk down the steps of Molly's. "Yeah me too" I say. We start to walk down the pathway when I hear a loud gun shot pierce through the silent night. Before I can even think Faith is pulled to the ground full force by the bullet that has just hit her. "FAITH!" I scream as I drop down next to her and apply pressure to her wound. "Hailey?" She asks confused. "Shh its okay, your going to be okay" I say as I look around for someone. "HELP!!" I shout at the top of my lungs, "PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP!!" I yell again and this time I see a man run across the road towards us. "Call 911! Call 911!!" I cry to him as he pulls his phone out.

"Hailey it hurts" I hear Faith mumble. I look back down at her with tears in my eyes. "I know Fay, it's okay I've got you" I say but the blood is pouring out quick and I am having trouble stopping it. I take my jacket off and place it on her wound to try and stop the bleeding. "That's a lot of blood" she cries. "I know but it's not that bad, your gonna be okay" I cry. "Hailey" she says weakly as she places her hands on top of mine, I look up to her and she is gong pale. "I'm...scared, I-I don't want to die" she says as a tear falls from her eyes. "Faith listen to me your gonna be fine" I cry as I try to convince her. She starts to cough and I see blood come out of her mouth. Her breathing slows and her eyes start to close. "No Faith you have to stay with me okay, keep your eyes on me" I cry as I look at her. "Hailey....it's okay" she utters weakly as her eyes grow heavy.

I look down at her and I start sobbing. She gives me a weak smile. "This is not...your...fault" she whispers to me. "No don't you dare say goodbye" I sob. "I-I love....you" she whispers as she closes her eyes.
"No don't dare close your eyes! Faith no please!!" I sob as I shake her slightly but I get no response.
"No! Open your eyes Faith! Come back to me! This is not goodbye do you hear me, this is not the end" I cry as I try to get her to wake up. She doesn't react.
"Please don't leave me" I whisper as more tears flow from my eyes. I hear sirens in the background, I look up to see an ambulance pull up next to us. "There here Fay, your going to be okay!" I say as the paramedics run over to us and start to work on her.

They get her into the ambulance and we speed off to med. the paramedic had to intubate her while I kept pressure on her wound. My hands were soaked in blood and they were shaking slightly. I can't believe this happened. I mean the shot came from in front of us so surely it was targeted. But they only fired once. I mean Faith has no enemies. Was it meant for me? Ohh god I can't even breathe. What the hell is going on? I'm scared and I feel alone. I feel vulnerable and I don't know what to do. All I can think about if Faith. She has to pull through this, she will pull through this. I can't close my eyes though because every time I do i see her laying there on the floor, telling me goodbye, but when I open my eyes I am still stuck here. It's not a nightmare it's real, this is her blood on me. 'Why did I make her stay?' I think to myself 'this would never of happened'.

We pull up into med and I see Dr Rhodes open the door to the ambulance and a bunch of nurses surround us. The paramedics start saying stuff as we exit the back of the ambulance but I can't focus on them. I am brought back to reality when I feel someone place a hand on my shoulder. "Detective let's me take over" Dr Rhodes says to me in a gentle tone. I nod and slowly remove my hands as he takes over putting pressure on her wound. They rush past me and I follow in behind them trying to keep up. They run further through the hospital but I am stopped my someone. "Hailey honey you can't go with them" I hear Maggie say quietly as she places a hand on my arm. I turn to look at her and nod. I know that I'm not allowed any further. I slowly back away from her and start to turn when I bang into someone by accident.

I look up and I see that it is Will that I have walked into. "Hailey?" He asks confused and concerned as he looks at me covered in blood. "Will I-I ughhh" I stutter. "Is it Jay?" He asks worriedly but I shake my head. "Faith she-she was shot" I cry. His face softens as he looks down at me. I feel myself start to break down more as I think about it more. "Here I got you. I'll take you to the surgery waiting room upstairs" he says as he wraps a arm around me. He gives Maggie a nod and I see her return to her desk. He leads me to the elevator and we go up to the surgery floor. Once we get out I see that there are 4 different rooms that look like a glass cube with chairs inside. He leads me to one of them and sits me down.

Jays POV
I am awoken from sleeping on the couch by my phone ringing, I pull it out of my pocket thinking it is Hailey but to my surprise it's 'Kelly severide'. "Hey Kelly everything okay?" I ask as I answer his call. "Jay, man you have to get your unit and get to med right now" he says worriedly. "Wait what's going on?" I ask worried "there was a shooting and Faith was hit" he says and I jump up "is she okay? Is Hailey okay?" I ask worried as I grab my shoes and keys. "She's with Faith and they are on there way to med" he says "okay thank you Kelly" I say as I hang up and dial Voights number and run out the door to my car. "Jay? Everything okay?" He asks as he answers. "No Hailey and Faith were shot at, Faith got hit and they are on there way to med. I need you to get everyone there now!" I say as I hang up and speed off to med.

I quickly park my car in a space and jump out, luckily I see Voight and the rest of the unit pull up as well. "What the hell happened?" Kim asks worried "I don't know it was Kelly that called me" I say as we all run towards the entrance. We all speed through the sliding doors and I go right up to Maggie, "where is she?" I ask "Jay she's up in the private waiting room with Will on the surgery floor" she says. "Upstairs?" I ask and she nods. I just sprint off ahead and go up the stairs to get to her. I make it up to the floor and I go in to see her and Will sitting in a private room. As I walk closer I see that Hailey covered in blood all over, she is crying and Will is trying to comfort her. I near burst into tears at the sight of her.
