Chapter 40: Planning

2 days later

Hailey's POV
I can't believe that Jay Halstead is my fiancé. It's actually unbelievable, never in a million years would I of guessed that I would of been lucky enough to have someone as amazing as him by my side. My birthday was beyond brilliant, he made me feel like the luckiest girl in the world and gave me two of the greatest gifts ever.

Waking up in his arms this morning feels different, it feels warm, familiar but new, it's a really exciting feeling. But sadly today we do have to go into work so we can't lay in bed for the day again but at the same time we get to tell everyone that we're engaged.

We walk into the unit and everyone is sitting at there desks as normal. Typing and writing away just waiting for a case to come by. I can already feel a smile burst onto my face as we walk into the room.
Kim looked up and smiled at me before turning back to finish her report. We walk over to our desks and take our jackets off. I look up at Jay and he nods at me.

"Hey guy we have something we wanna say" Jay says to the team as they all lift their heads and turn their chair towards us. Voight comes out of his office to listen to what we have to say. "What up guys?" Adam asks curiously. "Well Hailey and I are engaged!" Jay says with such pride. "Aye!!" Kim squeals as she jumps up from her seat in joy.
"What?!!" Adam asks in shock as everyone also stands up. "My man" kevin says as he pulls Jay in into a tight bro hug. "Congratulations!" Kim says as she pulls me into a hug. "Thank you" I say.

"Ma girl Congratulations" Kevin says as he pulls me into a hug. "I mean took you long enough Halstead" Kim jokes as she hugs him. Adam gently takes my hand and looks at my ring. "Jeez Jay how much more are you getting paid then us" Adam jokes as he looks at my ring on my finger. "Well you know when you the best in the unit you get a bonus" Jay jokes
"Aww I'm so happy for you guys!" Adam says as he hugs me. "Thank you" I say.

"Well congratulations" Voight says as he shakes Jay's hand and pulls him into a hug before doing the same for me. "Thank you Sarge" I say happily as they all are happy for us. "Well we haven't had a case yet so use this as a chance to catch up on all of your paperwork you have left" Voight says as he starts to walk back into his office.

Few hours later

"Hey guys!" Faith says as she walks in. We all turn to look up at her. "Hiya!" I say as I stand up from my desk and walk towards her. "I brought coffees and donuts for everyone!" She says as she places a box that she took up with her on my desk. "Yess!" I everyone cheers as they all look over to her. "You know your desk Sargent is a lovely lady" she says as she opens the box. "Seriously, are you joking?" Jay asks in shock. "No I gave her donut and she was really polite to me" she says as she starts to hand out donuts to everyone. "Well then you are very lucky, she's not really a fan of people" I chuckle as I help her pass around the coffees. "Really?" She asks "Yep" Kim says in agreement.

After she passed everyone a donut and a coffee she went through and gave one to Voight. From the outside it looked as if they were getting along alright which I was very happy about. After placing it on his desk she walks back out and over to me. "Anyway so this is your guys office" she says as she looks around in her surroundings. "Yep pretty much" Adam says with a mouth full of a donut. "Pretty decent, but you know those knife attached to the wall are pretty terrifying" she chuckles and so does everyone.

She turns around and looks at my desk and I see a smile spread across her face. "Ohh I feel so privileged that I am on your desk" she says as she lifts up the photo frame from my desk with a picture of the two of us in it. "Yep always there" I say as I watch her place it carefully back down. "So anyway I will get out of your guys way" she says as she starts to pick up all of her things. "Thanks for the donuts and coffees" Kevin says politely "no problem, see you guys later" she says. She gives me a quick hugs me before kissing my cheek. "Hails don't forget that we have a lunch date" she says as she starts to walk away from me. "I won't, bye. Be careful!" I shout to her as she starts to head back downstairs.

I sit myself back down in my chair and take a sip of the coffee Faith bought for me. "So why hasn't Faith really ever been round before?" Adam questions. I turn around in my seat and face him. "I don't know we just never really had the time you know. We were both really busy and have a lot going on, but you guys don't mind having her around do you?" I ask. "I like her so much she's just so lovely and sweet" Kim says as she smiles at me. "Yeah me too" Kevin agrees. "I am so glad that you guys like her" I say pleased that they all get along. "Yeah I could get used to donuts in the morning" Adam says as he winks at me. "Hahahahah of course you could" I laugh.

"How long is she here for?" Adam asks "Emm Jay how long was her ticket again?" I asks as I turn to look at him. "Umm 5 days I think" he says as he places him pen down and closes his file that he was writing in. "Well let's just hope she can come more often" Kim says "Yeah we are definitely going to have her round more often, especially now there's a wedding to plan" I say "wait, wedding planning already?" Jay asks from behind me. Both me and Kim start to laugh as I turn around to see his shocked face. "Yeah Jay there's a lot of things to do" Kim says. He looks at me then at Kim before he cracks a smile. "That's going to be fun" he half chuckle but inside I can tell he's a bit scared.

As I'm heading out of intelligence I catch Trudy waving me over to the corner. I walk over to her unsure of whether I was in trouble or she was telling me a secret. "Congratulations by the way" she says with a wink. "Wait how did you-" "How did I know? Hahah you think chuckles planned all of this by himself, I mean come on blonde he's good but he's not that good" she says while laughing. I'm shocked that out of all people I thought of it was actually Trudy who helped Jay plan all of this. "Did he ask you?" I ask "yeah he had no clue what he was doing" she sighs "well thank you Sarge" I say with a smile. She nods back before going back towards her desk.

At lunch

"I know but I will definitely be visiting more often and we will need to discuss this wedding of yours" she laughs and I look down at the ring "yeah well your my maid of hour so your gonna have to help me a lot" I say smiling as I look up at her. She's looks suprised though "Really I'm your maid of honour?" She asks nearly crying "of course who else would it be" I say. She laughs then gets up from her stool and hugs me. "Okay well let's start now" she says excitedly. She sits back down and looks up at me.

"When do you think you want to have the wedding?" She asks. "Well I would of loved to do it on the day he proposed but it's my birthday and that's just too much, but I do have another date in mind" I say "Okay when?" She asks. "August the 18th" I say as I feel myself start to smile as I think about the date. "What date is that?" She asks curiously. "Nothing that's just the date of the day when we first met in a bank" I say as I look at her. She smiles and nods "I think that's a perfect date" she says. I feel myself smile as I think about that day. The day where my life changed for the better, that was the day I met Jay Halstead.
