" Miss me , wifey ".
I flinched , putting down the marker. The smirk on his face widened as he emerged from the darkness of the classroom.
I stayed quiet .
I didn't miss him , but once in a while I craved his affection.
The sweet days , the days when he didn't yell , the days when we didn't fight . The days when he'd rock our son & I to sleep.
His eyes remained on me as he took steps closer. My back was up against the board & he was close enough that I could feel his breath on my face .
His hands shot out to my waist & gripped me tightly .
I released a whimper at the pain.
"You thought you could fucking leave me " ! He yelled while shaking me harshly . I whimpered a quiet "no".
I was already crying .
I was scared .
More scared than I'd ever been before .
He released his hands off my waist & wrapped his hand around my throat . I clawed at his hand trying to break free from his deadly grip.
" Now what your gonna do is come with me" He let go of my neck , watching as I coughed violently.
I left everything that I brought with me & walked to his car with him trailing close behind.
I closed the door & turned towards the back seat , quietly gasping at the sight of my son sleeping peacefully.
" What is he doing here "? I asked Kai as he pulled out of the school parking lot.
" Spending quality time with his dad". Kai replied , grabbing my hand in his .
He was still the same old Kai , but more violent .
He had grown out his hair & if I'm being honest with you , he looked amazing .
" Tell me have you seen anyone else since I left " ? Kai asked , turning my way .
" No". I answered truthfully . Kai's eyes beamed & his smiled widened a little.
" Where's my mom"? I asked , remembering that she watched Kai today . It wasn't a single way he could've got Kaisten if my mother was there.
" Home I guess . She dropped Kai off with your aunt & your aunt isn't really responsible , so I snatched him up out of her house without her noticing ". Kai responded , heading down the all too familiar highway .
Kaisten started waking up , so I handed him his food from McDonald's - Kai got him on the way .
"Daddy" ! Kaisten screamed , dancing in his car seat. Kai flashed him a smile before saying " Sit back bubba . I don't want you to get hurt ".
My heart swelled at that . I hated that it did .
How could I still love a man who used to beat me black & blue ?
I don't really know , but I guess I'll see how things go this time.
