"You wanna explain to me why you were texting me so late, missy?"
The sound of laughing from the other end of the phone almost made Luz lose her composure, and as a smile broke out on her face, she immediately shoved that back down and kept her stern look.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" Amity laughed, letting out a breath of air. "I just found out what the symbol you sent meant and I got excited!"
Excited.
Amity Blight was excited by the heart.
Luz could feel her breath hitch at Amity's comment, some heat rushing to her cheeks that she didn't realize. When she noticed that she hadn't said anything yet, she immediately tried swallowing down her new-nervousness and speaking.
"Y- yeah!" Luz shoved out in a stutter, immediately wincing at the sound of it. "I mean- you shouldn't be up that late! You have school! What were you even doing for that long? It was like, four in the morning!"
"Well, one thing led to another and I kinda just, got sidetracked. It was so weird too. Out of nowhere, I just started wanting to ask all these questions. I looked up how certain foods were made, how all these historical figures acted growing up, these weird conspiracies, everything!"
Luz could feel herself practically melting at Amity's words, letting out a quiet sigh as she heard Amity talk.
Was it weird how she felt like this when all Amity was doing was talking about nonsense?
Maybe.
"Also, I actually found this thing called 'fanfiction.' I looked into it and-"
Amity immediately heard the sound of Luz breaking out into a laugh.
"What?"
"No, no, it's nothing bad!" Luz reassured, waving her hand around before pushing her hair back. "I just never thought I'd hear you say the word 'fanfiction' before!"
"Is that bad?"
"Not to me it isn't!" she said as she flicked her fingers. "You are talking to someone who loves fanfiction! Unlimited stories about your favorite characters are my forte, girl! There are a lot of people who hate it though, so I'd be careful."
"Why would people be upset about other people writing about characters that already exist?"
"Well, there is a lot of stuff that goes into it. Some people just don't want their characters to be inserted in different scenarios, some of the writing can be super bad and people hate on it, lots of people make very wrong scenarios and people get uncomfortable, which I can totally underst-"
"Oh my god!" Luz could hear Amity call out from the other end, immediately making her freeze. "I am so sorry, Luz, but can we finish this conversation later? I just saw the time and I need to go!"
