She peered over the staircase and watched as her mom walked off into the kitchen, creating the perfect opportunity for her to sneak over and be the little rebel she was.
She smiled as she quietly made her way to the door down the hall, immediately catching a glimpse of the few star stickers she had left on the bottom of the door from every visit she made to this room.
She laughed a bit as she pulled out a sticker sheet from her pocket, removing one of the stickers from it as she then put it next to the others.
"Haha!" She laughed, stuffing the sticker sheet back into her pocket before putting her hand on the doorknob, looking around before quietly opening it.
As soon as she was able to look inside, she was immediately met with a blank wall and the wooden flooring, nothing to see in this angle.
No, what really mattered was what was on the other side of the room.
A crib.
"She's still here." She smiled, walking over to it.
The crib had a nameplate on the front of it, its name being in cursive.
She smiled as she ran her fingers over it, reciting the name being written.
"Amity."
It felt like a giant weight being lifted from her chest every time she said that name, the exact same way the twins' names did.
"Amity, Edric, and Emira." She recited, a smile growing on her face.
It wasn't easy getting into this room, even though it seemed that way.
She had to make sure her parents were out of sight and too busy to check up on her and the others, step on all the right and most quietest floorboards, and make sure that she didn't make too much noise opening the door.
With twenty-four hour surveillance on her at all times, it felt like she could never get the "right time."
But here she was.
Here again.
She went over to the side of the crib and looked inside, immediately seeing the baby asleep with a pacifier in her mouth.
"Hi, Amity." She quietly spoke, her face softening when she looked down at her. "It's me, your big sister."
She smiled as she leaned against the crib, making sure not to make any loud noises that would wake her up.
"I'm sorry I didn't get to see you yesterday. Mom and Dad keep trying to not let me see you. I don't know why. It's dumb."
