She rushed inside the manor and closed the door instantly. She needed to get upstairs, and right now would be better than any later. If her mother had caught her at any moment right now, this would be the end for Amity Blight. She was inside. All she needed to do now was get upstair-

"Amity dear. What were you doing out this late?" Her mother, Odalia, leaned against the staircase, her arms crossed as she wore her usual attire, a watch on her left wrist.

"I-I'm sorry mother, I didn't mean to-"

"Speak up young lady. Do you not have any manners? You do not stutter in this house. I asked you a question, now answer it. Or would you rather have me take you back to Kindergarten? Sound out your words Amity. Think of what you will say to me before you speak it out."

"I'm...I'm sorry mother. It won't happen again." Amity had now had her hands against her sides, looking straight at her mother before she started walking over to the staircase. She has her chance to escape.

"Are you deaf?! I asked you to tell me what you were doing and you will answer me! You won't be getting out of this this time!" Her mom had blocked Amity from moving any further by standing in the middle of it, her arms surprisingly still crossed. Her hand wasn't against Amity's face, so she would still say she's doing good in this argument.

"Damn it." She spoke under her breath. Usually she could just get away from any trouble she may have gotten in by telling her parents that it won't happen again and walk away, but it looks like today wasn't gonna be one of those days. That excuse lasted longer than she thought it would've, so eh.

"I was...I was reading to the kids at the library..." Amity choked out, so long for it being a secret, and she almost dared to shut her eyes, but after some quick consideration of what her mom would do if she did that, she continued to look straight at her.

"Excuse me?" She spoke out as if it was venom dripping from her mouth, daggers being thrown straight at her. Her daughter would never dare to do something like that.

"D-Did you not hear me? I said that I was-" Amity began to speak, but she was quickly interrupted by her very upset mother.

"And what happened to studying?! I thought you were gonna finally get those grades up and be useful?! If I have to remind you, your grades are in an absolutely horrible state, and you're there at the library 'reading to kids?!' Is that gonna help boost up your F's?!"

Amity turned her head down, biting the edge of her lip.

"It makes me happy, I just thought-"

"No one's gonna care in life if something makes you feel 'happy' Amity. I told you to study and I expect you to do what I say, not go off and associate with disgusting snot-filled children!"

"I was gonna study afterwards, I swear, I just promised the kids that-"
