37. Heat

It was dinnertime, so Taehyung went downstairs to the dining room to join the others. A satisfied smile is on his lips as a result of Jungkook's scent lingering on his mate's hoodie that he is wearing. 
 
Meanwhile, everyone at the table is aware of Taehyung's condition, but they have opted not to discuss it since they do not want to scare the omega about what comes next after nesting. 

"How's your sleep, baby?" Jin asked, tapping the available chair next to him and motioning for his brother to sit beside him. 
 
"I'm good. But I really miss Kookie," Taehyung stated with pouty lips. 
 
"Don't worry, dear, Jungkook will be back in just a couple of days," Hye Kyo said with a wide smile on her lips, as she's delighted for the two to finish the mating process and hope that they could already give her a grandchild.

"Did you message him already? He keeps on calling us and asking about you," Sehun asked. 
 
"Yeah, I already talked to him a while ago." Taehyung smiled, blushing at the memory of his alpha.
 
They spent their dinner chatting and laughing about random topics. They simply enjoyed their dinner, and Taehyung appears to forget about his mate for a time because he keeps giggling and joining in on the conversation. They ate their dinner a little longer than usual because everyone had their own story to tell.

A few more hours passed before they decided to go upstairs to their rooms. They were all standing, ready to take the first step of the staircase, when Taehyung felt a pain in his abdomen. 
 
"Ouch!!" Taehyung shouted in anguish as he squatted, his hands tightly gripping Jungkook's hoodie. Everyone rushes towards him, all with evident panic on their faces, particularly his siblings. 
 
"Tae, what happened?" Jin asked, rubbing soothing circles on Taehyung's back.

"H-hurts," Taehyung answered, his eyes welling up with tears as he yelled once again when another wave of pain crept across his abdomen. 
 
Yoongi's phone began to ring almost immediately. 
 
"Where's Taeh-" 
 
"He's in pain. Maybe he ate something?" Yoongi said. 
 
"What did h-?" Jungkook was cut short when Taehyung yelled as another pain struck him.

"Fuck! What's going on?" Jungkook exclaimed. Yoongi couldn't respond to Jungkook as everyone began to look at each other with wide eyes. 
 
"He's on heat!" Hye Kyo said, causing Jungkook to freeze on the other end of the call. 
 
"Fuck!!" Jungkook curses in his thoughts. He's anxious about his mate and wishes he could be with him to care for the omega in his state. 

"Kookie, go home, please. I want my mate!" Taehyung yelled, unaware that Jungkook could hear him because he was still on the other line, supposedly conversing with Yoongi. 
 
Jungkook's heart ached when he heard his pleading omega. He longed to go home and draw Taehyung into his warm embrace, assuring him that everything would be fine. But then he realized that once he smelled his mate's aroused scent, it would set off his rut. And, as much as he wants to complete the mating process to relieve Taehyung's pain, he refuses to take him, at least not until the omega is ready. 

"Oh my gosh! Mom, Luna, his entire body is so hot. I mean, I know he's really hot, but now it's literally hot," Jin grumbled, completely unaware of what he was talking about because of panic.
 
"Good thing everyone here is already mated. No one can smell his intoxicating scent. Jin son, help him upstairs. I'll just grab a vessel and ice," Minyoung stated, which Jin immediately did with Jimin's help. 
 
Jungkook, on the other hand, canceled the call with Yoongi since it appears that calling him is a bad idea because the pale wolf is unable to talk, so instead, he contacted her mother. 

"Jungkook, stop calling. We're taking care of your mate," Hye Kyo yelled, not allowing her son to say anything as she picked up her phone and canceled the call quickly. 
 
Jungkook groaned in anger because he was concerned about his omega's condition but was unable to communicate with anyone. All he wanted to do was video call his mate and calm him, but all he could do was sigh for the nth time in less than half an hour.

Jungkook longed to go home and be with his mate, but he also needed to fulfill his duty as the pack's future head alpha. He needs to ensure everyone's safety and learn how to deal with such situations with rogues because this is the first time those wild wolves have attempted to go near their boundaries or even enter their land, as their pack is the most powerful pack due to the Jeon family's rank, a family of trueblood alphas.

Taehyung, on the other hand, continues to suffer from abdominal pain. He's resting in Jungkook's bed, with Minyoung carefully wiping his entire body to lower his body temperature, despite the fact that they all know only Jungkook can relieve his suffering.
