{Chapter 4.}

Lydia:

That night, I couldn't sleep at all. I just couldn't stop thinking of the gashes that were identical on both Mom and Dad. Call me paranoid but, those were intentional and nobody knows who it could've been or why. I mean- we are new to this town. Mom and Dad have barely gone out to say someone hates them is crazy. I thought this town would bring us good things not mysterious happenings.

Alec had showed up five minutes after Cassidy and we showed him the gashes. He was pretty psyched too but, he hadn't said much. Maybe this is what Damon meant at the boarding house earlier. He claimed for me to wear a scarf around my neck or something along those lines.

It was five in the morning and I was still staring at the ceiling in my room trying to figure stuff out. I sat up in my bed but, then just decided to get out of it. The birds were already chirping anyways. Sneaking out of my room I seen Cassidy's bedroom door slightly opened. I peeked inside but she was sleeping so I closed the door. Alec's bedroom door was a crack open, I peeked in there as well.

" Cass?" He whispered.

" It's me." I whispered back closing the door behind me. "Why are you awake?" I asked.

" The same reason why you're awake." He sat up on his dark blue sheets and I sat on the edge of his bed.

" Are you sure?" I asked.

" Well, most of it is because of Mom and Dad, the other half is because of Elena." He smiled.

" The brown haired girl from yesterday?" I questioned remembering her hurt expression when Stefan had introduced me.

" Yeah, I think she kinda likes me ... Sort of." Alec itched his head in confusion.

" Gross and cute at the same time." I laughed. "Did she talk to you a lot yesterday?"

" Well, they all spoke to me yesterday for a bit but, she called me a nice guy, followed by her talking about her previous romance with Stefan." He explained and raised an eyebrow at me.

" They were dating?" I asked. That would explain her hurt expression.

" Apparently for a year or so but, they broke up in January." He finished with a shrug. "I'm not sure why, she didn't tell me."

" No way." I said to myself. "Stefan never spoke to me about that stuff."

" Maybe it's too soon." Alec pursed his lips.

" You're right." I agreed, trying to convince myself that he was correct.

" Why'd you come in here anyways?" He asked me bluntly.

" I came here to tell you that I'll be right back." I explained slowly getting off of his bed.

" Wait where are you going and why?" He questioned curiously.

" I'm going to Stefan's house for some answers, it's right down the street." I said.

" So you're going to barge in at like five in the morning and demand answers to your questions?"

" Yes." I nodded my head opening his door. "Cover for me." I whispered and he nodded his head.

Quietly I went down the stairs and into the kitchen. I was thinking of taking an apple or something but, then my parents would know someone took something so I slipped on my shoes and slid out of the door.

It was hot outside, the sun was just about to rise and there weren't any cars out. I was putting my hair in a ponytail as I walked down the sidewalk, remembering I was still in my pyjamas. When I got to the Salvatore boarding house a couple of things popped into my mind. Stefan was really squeamish yesterday about the scrape and I'm sure it's still visible at the side of my face right now. What if he freaked out again? Or what if nobody even answered the door? He said he'd be out early this morning but, it's still pretty early so maybe by luck he'd still be home.
