{Chapter 23.}

Lydia:

I woke up, fluttering my eyes for a bit and looking around the room. Recognizing my surroundings, it came to me that a pair of arms were wrapped around my waist again. They were colder than mine and so I knew who it had to be. Although this time, I didn't bother to pretend and roll off of the bed because this time it seemed intimate.

As I shifted my head a bit to see the person, memories started to come back to me. Last night I ended up crying and Damon had comforted me. He probably fell asleep next to me.

The room was silent, sunlight shone through the somewhat opened curtains and everything seemed still. Birds were chirping outside but, I ignored them and shifted my body to face Damon. He was still sleeping so I took a moment to inspect him. He seemed so peaceful lying there in his frozen time.

" You're staring ..." He said with a smirk.

" I'm sorry." I chuckled with a yawn.

" It's alright, I'm used to girls staring at me." He stretched his arms out.

" Shut up." I pushed him off of the bed with a heavy tumble.

Suddenly the bedroom door bursted open, causing me to instantly sit up.

" Good morning." Grace said brightly. "Sorry if I interrupted anything."

" Grace." Damon stood up from being on the floor.

" How long have you been up?" I asked brushing through my hair with my fingers.

" I've been up since about six." She said cheerfully with a smile.

" Six?" I remarked as she nodded her head.

" Then what time is it now?" Damon asked with a confused face. I slid off of the bed and onto my feet.

" It's half past ten right now." Grace opened the bedroom door a bit wider.

" Oh, wow." I jumped to my feet and gathered my hair in a ponytail. It was still sort of curly from yesterday.

" Yeah. I made breakfast for you guys if you're both in for it." Grace gestured towards downstairs.

" Really?" Damon and I looked at each other before turning back to her.

" That's sweet of you." I paused. "Damon and I will be down in a minute."

" Alrighty, I'll leave you two then." Grace raised her eyebrows at us before closing back the bedroom door.

Stefan:

This was the first night I had slept in days and it was next to Elena. How weird was it to sleep in the same bed as your ex girlfriend and not do anything. Last night she called me to pick her up in the school parking lot. When I got there, she never really told me why she was teary-eyed, and I didn't want to pressure her into it either.

I had been up for a while, watching as Elena slept in discomfort. She was hurting and I still couldn't understand why. Although I knew it had something to do with Alec because he didn't come back to the house last night.

It wasn't long before Elena opened her eyes and rose her head from my chest. She seemed confused but, then she looked up at me and put her head back down.

" You were thinking about me." I felt her smile against my body.

" Of course I was. I'm worried about you Elena." I breathed heavily.

" Well, you don't have to." She said coldly.

I waited a moment for the ice to melt. Things between her and I were seemingly awkward but, it didn't feel that way last night. Last night, Elena went up to my room and changed. By the time I came in, she was lying on my bed, half of her body under the covers and facing the opposite way from the door.
