{Chapter 21.}
Elena:
Evening was approaching and I still couldn't find Alec. Running around in heels reminded me of Katherine and it was pretty damn hard. All I wanted to do was run into his arms and reassure him that everything was going to be fine. That this hunger drive he was experiencing would never be over and that one day he'd realize that.
Mystic Falls was a town you couldn't get very lost in. Considering how small it was, it seemed like Alec had to be elsewhere. I had checked the Eastside of the waterfall and he wasn't there, he wasn't in any of the small shops around, not in his house or in the woods. I had even gone back into the hall to check if he was anywhere but, he wasn't. So my last resort was Mystic Falls high school, otherwise I had no idea where else he'd be.
I had appeared in front of my old school and entered inside. The classrooms were all locked and the halls were empty. It was a summer evening so no one would be here, not even the janitor but, then something caught my eye. There was a sudden move in the atmosphere as if someone had ran down the hallway in front of me: a vampire.
" Hello?..." I called out, looking all around me. "Is anyone here?"
Immediately, I regretted coming here. Things were getting too creepy for my likings. I pushed down the caviar and crackers that were about to come up my throat and started walking down the hall to the doors at the end. When I got to the doors, I noticed a trail of blood leading through the cafeteria. There were small dots all over the floor leading up to a closed door by the back so I followed it.
My mind started going on another track. Why was there fresh blood on the floor of the Mystic Falls high school even though it's been closed for almost two months. Studying the door I started to think it over: blood meant that something or someone was bleeding: obviously.
As I reached for the doorknob, a pair of hands wrapped around my mouth and neck from behind. Now the adrenaline in my body was flowing heavily through my veins. Despite the fact that I was a vampire, I had never felt my heart beat so fast before.
I tried to scream and kick away the arms around me but, it was merely impossible. My small fingers couldn't do a single thing. Suddenly, my vision fell to darkness and my body went limp like a noodle. I knew that I passed out but, how was the question. What caused me to black out the way I did? Was it of exhaustion?
---
It must have been hours later when I woke up deliriously in the gym. It was good to know that I was still in the school and not elsewhere. It smelt kind of weird in here too, without the air conditioning.
Looking around, I realized that I was on the ground so I got up and dusted off my dress. Quickly, I ran to the side entrance and tried to open the door but, it was locked. I ran to open the other pair of doors but, they were locked as well.
" Nice going Katherine, now let me out of here ..." I yelled out through the gym.
In response, there was an inhuman growl that came from atop the bleachers. I squinted to see what it was in the darkness but, couldn't see anything.
" It's not Katherine this time." The voice was devious.
Alec stepped out of the dark shadows and down the bleachers.
