{Chapter 29.}
Lydia:
It was surely the afternoon when I woke up from having my head leaned back in the passengers seat. The sun shone brightly in my eyes and some old 80's track was playing in the car.
" Well, you're the first one awake in the last two hours." Damon commented, keeping his eyes on the road ahead. When I looked in the back seat, Grace was leaning on Stefan: both of them asleep.
" Oh." Was all I could say. "If only someone didn't have to wake me up at five-thirty this morning."
" Woah. Somebody is cranky." He smirked.
" I'm kidding." I rolled my eyes with a chuckle.
" I know, I know don't worry." Damon looked over at me.
" So where are we going anyways?" I questioned.
Then it hit me: how could I possibly be going out on an adventure at a time like this? Why am I out here in some deserted place when I could be finding out whether Grace is my sister or not. This wasn't right and secretly, way down deep I knew it wasn't right but, I trusted Damon so much I pushed my conscience away.
" You'll see when we get there, it'll be good I promise you." He nodded in reassurance.
" I trust you." I nodded.
Alec:
After Katherine and I had reached the Salvatore boardinghouse it wasn't long before we seen everyone leave: Stefan, Damon, Lydia and the newest doppelgänger.
" Her name is Grace, or so I hear." Katherine whispered as we hid behind a nearby bush.
" Hmm ... had I stayed in the house I could've just met her myself. What a pity." I said, watching as the four of them drove away in Damon's car.
" Do you think it's safe?" Katherine questioned.
" Why wouldn't it be, they just left." I said, rising from the bush. "And look, an open window upstairs."
In a flash, the both of us appeared in the house. The open window was from the guest room.
" This must be Grace's room, no one else would be so dumb as to leave an open window." Katherine looked around the place.
" Or maybe it was Cassidy's." I frowned.
" Maybe ..." She shrugged, opening up some drawers.
" So, you think the moonstone is in here?" I asked, looking around the room.
" It has to be. The last time I seen it, it was in Stefan's hands: exactly where I wanted it to stay." Katherine opened the bedroom door to look around, I followed her.
" Well, here's a thought: maybe Stefan didn't want the stone to stay with him. Maybe he knew what you wanted and plotted against you." I said.
" I gave it to him years ago, he would've never thought to do anything wrong to me. We loved each other, believe it or not." She rolled her eyes.
" Gross." I commented and she darted her eyes at me.
" Yes, Stefan and I have a long, long history together." She stopped searching in the hallway and went into another bedroom.
" This was my room." I said, waltzing in and looking around. "There's no point looking, I'm sure I would've noticed if the moonstone was in here."
" Stefan could've hidden it in here in hopes that you would've been too oblivious to look around." She opened up the drawers again.
" Katherine, I'm not that stupid. I went into the drawers everyday, nothing is in here." I said.
" Fine, then let's check downstairs." She snapped.
As we were about to leave the room, the front door suddenly opened downstairs.
" Did you hear that?" I whispered.
" This is all your fault." She pointed.
Quickly, we went back into my guest room and closed the door in fear that we'd get caught.
" It's Elena." Katherine detected, locking the bedroom door.
" How do you know that?" I asked awkwardly.
" I can smell her scent. It's sweet and pure like no others." We sat on the edge of the bed.
" Shouldn't we get out of here?" I asked.
" Alec, don't you want to listen to what ever she's doing in here. It could be fun ruining what she has planned." Katherine tugged on the collar of my shirt playfully.
" Then let's stakeout." I smirked.
Elena:
It was now eight in the morning. I decided that I'd make my way to the boarding house. Maybe looking around the place could give me some inspiration on how to decorate it for this upcoming party.
As I walked up the driveway, I dialled Caroline's number on my cell phone. It rung about three times before she answered with a cheery tone, as always.
" Good morning Elena."
" Hey Care, I was wondering if you were headed to the boarding house any time soon. I figured that we should be planning on decorating for the party tomorrow night." I smiled.
" Wow, I can't believe you're out of bed this early, never mind at the boarding house." She laughed. "But, sure. I'll be there in two minutes I just have to change my clothes."
" Okay, great. Jeremy and Bonnie agreed that they'd be here soon too so it'll be fun." I said.
" Awesome, I'll be there ASAP." She emphasized on the ASAP.
" Okay." I hung up.
As I approached the door, I took out the spare key from under the door mat and let myself in. Entering the house, I felt skeptical. Something was off.
" Hello?" I called out through the big empty house but there was no answer. "Is anyone here?" I asked.
I knew I should've been content when no one answered but, I wasn't. It was almost like I was being watched which was sort of normal from my past experiences. So I flashed upstairs, checking all of the bedrooms. I came across Alec's old guest room that was locked and just before I could further investigate, I heard Caroline downstairs.
" Elena?" She called out.
" Hey." I appeared before her eyes. She smiled.
" Hey, are Bonnie and Jeremy here yet?" She asked, looking around.
" Um, not yet." I shrugged.
" I'll call them right now." She pulled out her cellphone and started dialling.
" Tell them to hurry up. I'm starting to get hungry." I joked.
