{Chapter 16.}

Lydia:

Damon and I stood in the main room exchanging glares. He squinted at me and came closer.

" Wear it." He held my vervain necklace by the chain.

I smiled at him without a word and placed it around my neck anyways then frowned. There was no other reason as to why he would make me wear it rather than the reason I thought. He was probably intimidated by me, or by my neck at least.

" Will he really wake up in a couple of minutes?" I asked crossing my arms over my chest tightly.

" He will wake up ... Soon." Damon shrugged with a smirk.

I sighed and went downstairs to the cell. It was like a prison down here. When I climbed down the last of the stone steps all that could be seen was a hall with cells: approximately four on each side.

Elena was by the end of the hall looking into one of the last cells. Alec was slumped against a wall with chains around his wrists that were connected to the back wall. It was so weird to see him like this. It all made sense as to why he was buried underground as apposed to being covered in dirt like everyone else. Whoever turned him, meant to send the message that he was really dead. I felt bad for him although at the same time he was luckier than I was. He didn't have a hybrid chasing him down.

---

There is two more days until the founders day ball event. In my mind, I can't tell if I'm truly excited or scared but, it doesn't matter much anyway because this wasn't going to matter. All that matters right now is finding this doppelgänger of mine.

With a yawn, I turned on the bed and faced the window. The sunlight poured into the room.

My world felt so different without Cassidy. It was like she never happened and that her existence was just a fantasy. Although it was sort of my fault for making her seem like a memory because I shut it out. She died and I chose to pretend like nothing happened.

I laid there in the bed looking at the ceiling for a bit. Nothing fairly good has happened since I was told that Mystic Falls wasn't what I thought it was. And I can't help but believe that I've sped up the process ever since I asked Damon what was really happening here. Maybe if he hadn't told me the truth, I could've avoided all of the drama happening right now.

" So there's some bad news ..." Damon busted open the bedroom door, attracting my attention. I sat up on the bed, trying to recapture my breath.

" How bad is bad?" I asked with another yawn.

" Bad like ... Alec isn't in the cell I put him in yesterday ...." Damon said through his teeth.

" Wait, what!?" I exclaimed. "Then where is he Damon? Where's Alec?" I tore the sheets off of my legs and shot up.

" Lydia, don't freak out. Maybe he's with Barbie. They're always together anyway, and since she was mad about us throwing him in the slammer- hopefully she's the one who got him out." Damon babbled. I understood that was his way of explaining things that didn't make sense to him either.

" You're right-sort of. Maybe Elena's with him or something." I brushed my fingers through my hair nervously.

It was perfect timing when the front door downstairs opened.

" Damon!" The feminine voice called out.

Him and I rushed down the stairs anxiously.

" Elena?" I asked, going into the main room.
