{Chapter 11.}

Lydia:

We sat in the car in silence for a little bit. Maybe a second or two, which was a lot more than I thought we'd be silent for. Why wouldn't Damon tell me his thoughts, it could've helped solve things between me and Klaus.

" What is it?" I asked with hesitation.

" If I tell you, you're going to freak out." Damon warned.

" No I won't. Just tell me." I said. If it was something worth freaking out over then I probably would freak out.

" Well." He started, giving me a reassuring look. "I don't think Klaus necessarily wants you for you, I think he wants you for himself because he wants to break a curse with a doppelgänger."

" What!?" I exclaimed nearly jumping out of the passenger seat. It made sense but, I just wasn't buying it. There had to be more to this.

" Hey, it's just a theory from an experienced vampire." Damon shrugged.

" A very thought-out theory." I said with a nod. "How could you possibly think that? I've only known you for a week."

" Actually, you've known me for nearly three years." He didn't make eye contact with me.

" No I haven't." I testified. "I moved here like eight days ago?"

" Must I constantly remind you that I'm a vampire Lydia?" Damon raised an eyebrow.

" Then why don't I remember you." I said, lost in thought.

" Because I compelled you to forget." His eyes seemed to hollow, like nothing was a lie anymore. "It was summertime, you wandered away from a party you were at. It was right around the rim of Mystic Falls and I saw you by yourself. Your hair was short and you were wearing a nice skirt that reached the ground. It looked like you were lost so I offered to help."

*Flashback*

Damon:

I walked back to Mystic Falls feeling as pathetic as when I left. This was my true hometown and nothing would change that. Not even being gone for a year. Being around the world has taught me nothing that I already hadn't learned. Katherine was never going to be found by me and I was never going to gain her love the way Stefan did back in 1864. Immortality sucks.

As I walked by the side of the rain soaked road kicking pebbles of all sorts, I could feel something in my gut. Something that felt sharp and I was keen and finding out what that feeling was. So I ran like lightning and showed up at the rim of Mystic Falls. The feeling came as pain but, I tried to ignore it as I seen a petit figure a bit far from me. She had short ginger coloured hair that reached her shoulders and wore a white top with a peach skirt that had a slit and reached to the ground. The girl was the most godly thing I'd seen in a long time but, truthfully I was quite hungry.

" You must be lost." I guessed as she stopped in front of me.

" Actually, I am. I don't live in this area." She smiled with a shrug.

" What street are you looking for? Maybe I can help you." I offered.

" That's the thing. I'm not sure where I'm headed. All I know is that my ride ditched me and that my house is a little far from here." The girl shivered, crossing her arms.

" Are you cold?" I asked peeling off my leather jacket.

" No, it's fine. I'm okay." She scoffed.
