{Chapter 14.}

Lydia:

*****

Things have been moving along great. There hasn't been drama around for a full five days. After the funeral for my parents, I think everyone eased up.

I get a sneaky suspicion that Caroline and Tyler sort of like each other because they seem to be around together lately. Bonnie and Jeremy have an undying love for each other and so it seems like Alec and Elena are the same. Matt says that he isn't ready to move on from where he used to stand with Caroline and I respect him for it. Mostly because he isn't helplessly in-love like everyone else around here. As for myself, I've been trained to sense bad when it comes around and boys are bad.

On a whole different note: Stefan has been a little absent since Cassidy's death. Not much emotionally traumatized, he just wants to bury himself in trying to find my doppelgänger. Which I've told everyone about by now, they just can't believe it. Bonnie said that she could use a tracking spell to find her but, I wasn't exactly sure what to say.

Yesterday, we were all discussing how we could meet my doppelgänger and Stefan explained that someone he knew could help us. Apparently, Klaus has a brother named Elijah who isn't on the best of terms with him right now. Elijah wants to kill Klaus as revenge for killing so many people in the past, so Stefan and Damon negotiated with him to make a deal. If Elijah can bring us the doppelgänger, then we'll all help him to kill Klaus. It was a win-win offer that none of us could refuse.

The only catch is that we must attend the founders day ball. Which meant fancy dresses, dates and pretending to be okay in public. It was in a couple of days but Elijah reportedly has my doppelgänger already.

I was laying down on the bed in my guest room talking to Damon who hasn't left my side since the memorial service. He was sitting at the end of the bed.

" So what's gonna happen when school starts again? I mean it's only two weeks away." I asked.

" Then enjoy your last two weeks of summer vacation. Why are you addicted to stress?" Damon's sarcasm made me chuckle.

" I'm not addicted to stress, I'm just thinking in advance." I said.

" Hey, lovebirds. We're gonna go hit up The Grill if you two wanna join." Jeremy leaned on the bedroom doorframe. I bit my lip at the remark 'lovebirds' but, Damon didn't react. He never did.

" I think I'll stay here little Gilbert." He yawned and stretched.

" What about you Lydia?" Jeremy looked my way.

" No thanks. I'll stay here for a bit." I smiled.

" Later guys." He left, to go downstairs with everyone else.

Damon and I remained on the bed. After we heard the door close things just got quiet, this time it was actually awkward.

" You know I should really tell you something." He said in all seriousness.

" What is it?" I asked, curiously. If I had asked too excited, knowing him he'd never tell me.

" It's actually about Alec." He sighed. "I smelt it off of him the second he got into the house on that afternoon that we got back in Mystic Falls."

" Wait, smelt what? Dog?" I asked. It was almost expectant that another weird thing could happen around here.

" Death." His eyes fell on me.

" Damon." I shook my head slowly in disbelief. "He isn't dead."

" Not entirely dead Lydia, Alec has been turned." Damon looked at me like he expected me to cry uncontrollably again.
