Leaving the hospital, I feel somewhat optimistic

Leaving the hospital, I feel somewhat optimistic. I know Ava has been through hell (and still trying to find her way back), but I hope I can once again provide her with the safety and comfort she so desperately craved during the dying days of her relationship with that bastard.

Adam waits with Farah, Suri and Walter downstairs, standing with a bouquet of flowers and runs towards her.

"Careful, buddy. Mom is still in a bit of pain, yeah?" I say cautiously and he duly gives Ava a soft hug around the waist, and she kisses his head.

"Let's go home."

My heart soars hearing her refer to my home as home.

The nurses gave her a small send off, and I'm grateful that they allowed us to use the back entrance as there has been more press than usual.

True to form, Ava refused a wheelchair and insisted on walking to the car.

"Uhh this is new?" She looks at the deep bottle green Aston Martin DBX.

"It's practical," I shrug. "There's no isofix for car seats in the Vantage."

"You didn't sell—"

"Of course not. She's tucked away in the garage. This makes more sense since I'll be doing the school drop in the morning with Adam."

Adam straps himself in. And honestly, I was just looking for an excuse to get the DBX. And I can't part from the Vantage just yet... you know for those days I have to rush to school.

Ava shakes her head in disbelief, blinking slowly and gets into the passenger seat. She dozes off before we've even hit the freeway making me question if this early discharge was a good move.

"Welcome home, love." I whisper in her ear, having parked in the courtyard.

Ava stirs and smiles softly when she opens her eyes, looking at the countryside manor she can now call home; at least until she decides if she wants to make it permanent.

Adam doesn't wait a second and hurtles through the front doors.

"This place is amazing, Mom. You're going to love it!" He shouts excitedly over his shoulder.

Ava's mom and Farah came past early this morning to bring Adam and Ava's bags. They said they'd pop by later and allow us time to settle in.

We make our way up a few steps towards the front door and Ava is already out of breath but that's not the reason why I scoop her up into my arms, carrying her over the threshold.

"Woah!! Jamie?! What are you—" she laughs and rolls her eyes at me when she realizes the gesture as we walk through the doorway.

"What can I say? I'm a sucker for traditions." I kiss her lips softly, feeling Ava's arms wrap around me; the roughness of her casted arm brushing against the back of my neck.
