After what feels like a mere ten minutes of slumber, I slowly become aware of what annoyingly woke me up. The room is still dark, thanks to some gloomy London weather, but I can hear a distant buzzing. I feel around for my phone and absentmindedly answer it, however the vibration continues to buzz elsewhere.

I feel around for Ava.

And accidentally swat her across the face—

"Uurgggh! Jamie?!" she croaks. "What the fu—"

"Shit, sorry love... your phone."

"Fuck."

She looks at the phone next to her side of the bed and shakes her head before scrambling out of the bed to her bag at the dresser.

Does she have a fucking burner cell??

"Shit, shit, shit."

She's a surgeon not a fucking drug dealer, you twat.

Ava scrambles clumsily to find another phone and has to juggle it a few times before answering.

Sebastian... Seb? Fuck. Can you hear me? Yeah I'm here. No not at the hospital, I meant here on the phone, silly. What's up? Oh, what time?? I know. Well, I'm on call so I don't exactly have a choice do I? Straightforward ORIF? Ok but I don't want to come all the way and still have to wait for bloods and for people to figure out what their jobs are. I just want to scrub in and get it over with. Send me the X-Rays. Prep the team. Oh I don't want that anesthesiologist from the last time I was on call... yeah, I like the him way better. Who is repairing the humerus fracture? Sure, I'll do it. See you at ten.

Ava groans. It's slightly passed 8am and we've only had about three hours of sleep.

"Did I hurt you?" I sit up and run my hand along her cheek.

"No," she giggles, "it was just a rather rude awakening."

"Everything alright at work?" I squint in the dark, running my hand along her back.

"Sorry I woke you." She turns to face me, cupping my face in her hand. "I'm on call today."

"You have to go." I try to not sound disappointed; honestly I'm impressed as fuck. She sighs and nods. "Come here," I pull her back into the bed, caging her between my shoulders.

I look at Ava, and take in her natural beauty; eyes even more green in the opaque morning light.  "Hmmmm good morning, beautiful," I say, before nuzzling her neck, that tantalizing scent of rose water and vanilla still intoxicating. "Ava the surgeon. Just when I thought you couldn't get any sexier."
