Waking up in Jamie's arms, I immediately do a few routine checks to make sure I haven't made this up, nor any of the events of our picnic date.
It feels so good, almost too good, to be true.
So I slowly start orienting myself. -Who am I? -Where am I? -How did I get here?
And I confidently recollect the previous day's memories.
Nothing happened by the way, we just made out like a pair of horny teenagers. And then Jamie insisted on staying the night, he personally called Dr. Khan and said they'd have to call the police to remove him from the premises and that that would cause a lot of panic and undue stress amongst the other patients. Dr. Khan reluctantly agreed, and was a wet blanket enough to remind James not to make a habit of it.
Jamie endured bouts of restlessness and the odd nightmare here and there, but even those feel more under control when he's around. Perhaps it's also the combination of antipsychotics I'm on. But for once I'm not favouring the non-scientific medium and explanation.
When I'm satisfied that this is all real, I backwards count from ten, take a deep breath in and the scent of Jamie's cologne confirms everything is indeed real.
I'm utterly content, and I slowly start drifting back into a deep slumber.

I awake to feel him tracing the outlines of the little bump growing along the bottom of my stomach, whispering softly to it so as not to wake me. I can't escape the raw elation fluttering through my being upon hearing him dote on our unborn baby, nor the distinct pride I hear in his voice as he speaks about me.
"Your mom— Jesus, where do I begin? She's probably had me by the balls since the moment I met her, but don't tell her I said so. She's also hands down the smartest person I know with the biggest heart and prettiest eyes, so I hope you get all those traits from her. Although her eyesight is shite so let's hope you get that from me—"
"Language." I croak groggily, not opening my eyes but brushing his curly locks between my fingers. I don't want to interrupt them.
"Fuck. Sorry. Shit, I just said fuck. I need to work on that." Jamie giggles. "Anyway where was I? Ah yes. Let's also hope you inherit my rugged good looks and charming personality, and my keen sense of driving. Your brother isn't half bad either. Mom would like to think she's the best driver in the household, but she knows better."
"Oh fuck off."
"Language." He teases as he plants little butterfly kisses up my belly making his way up and brushing his lips along my collarbone. "Good morning, doc."
"Morning." I couldn't help but smile as he snuggles up against me. "I feel bad for interrupting your little bonding session."
"It's alright. I chat to the little tyke whenever I can. We're already best mates."
