Y/E/C = Your eye color

The rain beat down outside the palace walls. It hardly ever rained in the fire nation but when it did it poured. The windows were fogged up from the mist and fog produced by the water interacting with the burning walls of the gold covered palace.

The fire nation prince sat watching the rain pour from his dry room. A fire blazed in the corner shining light and casting shadows over every surface. The shadow from the rain mingling playfully with the fires light. It was a soothing sight and relaxed the prince. His thoughts still spun a mile per minute but the calming atmosphere seemed to help get them straight.

He awaited the arrival of his soon to be husband. The Prince of the Y/E, Y/N. From what Zuko had heard he was an overall nice guy with a charming smile and a calm sense of humor. He sounded perfect but Zuko's thoughts kept producing what ifs and the fear of meeting him kept the fire prince rooted to the windowsill.

It wasn't until he heard the arrival horn blow that he rose from his window spot to get a glimpse of the new arrivals heading towards the palace door. A servant knocked and announced he was here, motioning for the prince to follow her towards the throne room.

Your POV

A cold sweat ran down your face as you stood before the Firelord. Only a month ago had you been told of your soon to be husband and you were a nervous wreck. Not only did you not know him but you hadn't even had a chance to question the fact he was a guy now it was suddenly hitting you. You couldn't believe this was happening and you didn't really want to.

But when you looked over to the opening doors to see a handsome prince walk through and stand beside the Firelord your heart stopped. No one could have prepared you for what you were seeing.

He was stunning. His hair was jet black and looked soft. His eyes were enchanting, they were the brightest gold you had ever seen. Even the scar adorning his striking features drew you in. You wanted to touch it, comfort him and know how it happened. You could stare at him all day but you managed a bow and a hello before going back to memorizing his face. It wasn't to boney nor was it chubby but it was the perfect size and shape and his lips looked soft like flower petals.

A hand on you shoulder snapped you out of your thoughts as you were told to follow The Prince and his servant to your chambers. You walked in silence and could feel the princes eye on you. Had you made a bad first impression? Was your hair not suitable? Did you smell?

All those thoughts went away when you laid eyes upon the room you'd be using for the next week or two. You looked over the room and rather ungracefully flopped onto the bed. It was much comfier than the bed's back home made from pelts/rocks/leaves. The room was lit up by candles and a small fire in the fireplace. You loved the smell of fire. It always reminded you of the campfires you would hold back home where your family would gather outside and share stories and food. You missed the smell of the ocean/grass/fresh air. But you had to remember this was for your people and for the nations, so as you gazed back up at Zuko, your future betrothed you smiled and invited him to join you on the bed.

Zuko Pov

Zuko watched as the Y/E prince flopped onto the bed with a thud and took in the scenery. He was going to leave you be but watching you take everything in he couldn't help but keep watching. The way your face changed from happy to mournful in a matter of seconds. The way you smiled at him like he was the sun and when you invited him to join you he sent you a sweet smile back.

The two of you  sat on the bed together, opposite sides but close enough to be comfortable. Zuko watched your eyes as you looked around the room again then back to him. You seemed shy but in a comforting way. Most fire nation people were forward and bold like the fire they controlled but you seemed to be a chill and as calm as the tide/breeze. He smelled your home on you as his eyes got lost in yours.

They were a calm Y/E/C, changing from dark to light as you tilted your head. The expression getting lost in your eyes only became more true the longer he stared at them. Like they were an abyss and he was getting sucked into them. Only when you turned your head away was he snapped out of the trance and pulled back to the present. Dinner was being served and your presence was being requested.

The two of you walked silently towards the dining hall. Few words had been spoken the entire time spent together although it didn't seem like you needed them. There was this mutual understanding you both shared and that seemed to be good enough. Both of you sat down at your respective places beside your fathers/parents.

While the two heirs were off mingling the two leaders had gotten to work on future plans for their nations. Neither heir was interested in the plans and decided to eat their food while the adults talked on. Y/N seemed to only pick at his food, he had taken a bite but the spiciness left him not wanting anymore. Only Zuko seemed to notice and he took note of that for future reference. He felt like he had to do something so he stood up to excuse himself and request more time to get to know his future husband.

Y/N was surprised but didn't object so the two walked out of the dining room. The two walked the halls of the palace, chatting here and there. Zuko kept asking about your home and Y/N gave him answers. They walked past the entrance to the palace garden and Y/N stopped walking. He stared out at the rain longingly. Back home it rained a lot and he couldn't help but be reminded of all the rainy days he spent playing with his friends or joining in on the smaller kids playing tag.

Zuko took notice and stood beside you, he placed a hand on your shoulder and offered for you to go out there. You turned to him with a smile and grabbed his hand, pulling him outside with you. Y/N laughed as the rain sprinkled his face and clothes, drenching him. Zuko didn't know what to do in this situation so he stood there awkwardly getting rained on. Y/N turned to look at the fire prince and felt bad so you took off your coat or top layer and held it up as a sort of umbrella or shield for you two to stand under. Zuko smiled and went to hold your hand again. It was soft unlike his, ruff from training.

The two of you stood there smiling, hands together and fingers intertwined. One drenched and the other only slightly damp. Zuko looked out at the wet garden gathering puddles and then to you with the biggest smile of his face. Maybe the rain was a great thing after all. Maybe this betrothal thing won't be so bad.
