The morning after

I see Niall and Zayn off shortly afterwards, we're all tired and in a hurry to get to bed. I practically fall asleep once I lay down. I get an hour or so of sleep before Cailyn is poking me awake with Tessie standing beside her. "Mommy, why is Tessie here so early!! She was in my bed and we don't remember how she got put there." she whispers urgently to me.

I groan and roll over slowly. Rubbing my eyes I try to gauge how awake they are, yup definitely not going to be able to send them back to bed for another half hour. I pull myself up onto one elbow and whisper back. "Tessie's daddy had to come over last night for an emergency. So Tessie stayed here with you and, in fact, her daddy is in the guest room right now, still sleeping. So we need to be quiet while we get dressed and eat breakfast. Then I'm going to take you two to the park, sound good?"

"Can I say bye bye to Daddy before the park?" Tessie asks in her normal voice, not bothering to whisper since her voice is so quiet anyway. Her hair is standing up on one side of her head and her shirt has fallen off one of her shoulders. She look absolutely adorable. I'm going to have to insist that the girls have sleepovers more often.

"Of course you can, but first breakfast and all that fun stuff like brushing your teeth and hair." I muss Tessie's hair more and she giggles. Then they're off, skipping back into Cailyn's room. I can't remember if Sophia had brought over any clothes for Tessie yet, but if not she can wear something of Cailyn's. Even if they aren't the same size Cailyn still has a lot of her old clothing that's too small that she just refuses to give away.Hoping that they can dress themselves well enough and without and color clashes, I hurry to get ready myself.

It isn't until I'm there picking out what I'm going to wear today that it strikes me that Sophia may never do this again and something as simple as a morning routine is suddenly turned into something I'm rushing through so I won't tear up. Take it hour by hour, I tell myself. Today will be hard, we'll probably find out one way or another what has happened. But until then I need to act like everything is normal, for the girls' sakes.

Short, sorryyyy
