It's now been a week that Tessie's spent with her father and since I've been on this rather forced vacation. I considered how to contact Liam and finally settled on simply calling him.
He answers with an abrupt, "What do you want Mrs.Sandoval?"
I don't bother correcting him. He seems to be determined to continue calling me that to get on my nerves, maybe if I stop acknowledging that it does he'll eventually stop. "I was wondering if you knew when you would want me to start watching Tessie again."
"Of course. It's been a week hasn't it? We are getting along fine, as you have no doubt heard." he pauses to see if I'll respond to this discovery. He continues when I make no reply. "Yes, I know about the little system you have been making her use, don't bother to deny it."
"I just wanted to make sure she was fine." I tell him.
"I can assure that I have her best interests in mind. Which brings me back to your question, I personally don't see any need to continue this."
"Are you firing me?" I question him, unfeelingly. To be honest, I almost expected it in my subconscious. He has made it no secret that he hates the sight of me and wants nothing to do with me. I doubted he would keep around for much longer. Does the person he's become care that Tessie is quiet and might not be as open or happy with another nanny? Probably not. I doubt Tessie could find the courage to tell him either. Despite the fun she's had this week I get the feeling that she's still a bit cautious around him. I mean, she's his daughter! No doubt she sees how he's changed more than anyone.
"Yes, I believe I am. Does that upset you?" he chuckles, causing shivers to run up my arms.
"I rather expected it." I sigh. "However I really don't feel like it's the best option. She's a shy girl, you know this and she already knows Cailyn and I, why don't-"
"No." he cuts me off mid sentence. "This is my finally decision. I also want you to stop contacting her. Don't answer her video calls or texts. She's a bright girl you know," he starts on a tangent. "we put her on one of those early reader things and she's an absolute genius at it. You see, I want the very best for her. So surely you can see that's not you."
"I honestly don't feel comfortable leaving her with you. I really don't think you should hire another nanny, I'm the one she does well with. They don't know her and they wouldn't understand how she has to make the first move in trusting you. They'll push her and she'll never open up!"
"No, you're deluding yourself. Any professional could get her to open up and I dare say she'll do what I ask and talk to them. She's a good girl."
"She is, but she won't handle it well. Really, at least wait until she's older. Or wait until the fall."
"I've listened to you for far too long. You're fired. You must have no more contact with my daughter. Goodbye." His chatty mood seems to have passed as he hangs up on me with those few choppy sentences. I close my phone and frown. I cannot allow her to stay with him. They're all alone until he hires a new nanny or security guard. Who knows what will happen if Liam takes another presenting job before hiring someone.
I sit on the couch for a while, turning things over in my mind. Finally, I come to a conclusion. I need to bring some help, I promised myself that I would be more active in his life. I would try to help him heal. I promised I would talk to his parents about him. And now I think would be a very good time to do so.
