Chapter Forty: You're Here?

Shailene's POV~

"How can I move on when you call me and interrupt my date?" The voice shouts.

"What happened to waiting for me?" I say breathless.

"You left me, flew to another state and never answered me. It's finished Shailene."

"Shailers, you okay? We're here." Sarah parks the car near the Emerygency Room Enterance.

I drift back to reality and realize I'm here for my baby. However, it upsets me that Theo has already found someone else. My heart feels broken, but he's correct. I had told him there was someone better than me and maybe he found that someone.

"Hi, I'm Shailene Woodley, I was told in my home state that I had a miscarriage. Yet, this morning something in my stomach has kicked. I haven't been on my mentastrual cycle either ever since I found out I was pregnant." I explain to the desk lady.

Her eyes widen, as if she heard I was an alien. She quickly calls two nurses, male and female with a wheel chair.

"Here, sit down Miss Woodley, this is rare and if you want your baby to survive, we will need you to trust us." The kind nurse helped me into the wheel cheer and the other pushed me towards the elevator.

I can hear my heart beat pump rapidly through the entire room. My baby can and will survive this. This baby will be all that I will have of Theo if he does move on. Tears swell up in my eyes, wishing Theo was with me because I am frightened at the moment. Sarah is walking by my side, holding my hand trying to relax me.

The nurses wheel me into a section of the hospital where surgeries are performed. My breathing becomes staggered, I wanted to crawl up and sob of all the nerves and terror I was feeling. I look at Sarah and she mouths, "It's okay, I love you."

They help me undress into a hospital gown and lay me onto a bed. A curtain has seperated me from other patients, the nurse had informed me that a doctor will be coming.

"Sarah, am I going to have surgery?" I take a deep breath.

"Shailers, this a good and safe hospital. Their operators are the best, they performed surgery on my knee when I had snapped it in basketball. You'll be just fine."

The doctor had walked in, as well as the operating team. Everyone had a sad smile on their face, leaning my bed frame down so I am laying flat on my back. They had started to wheel me, checking my pulse.

"Hello Miss Woodley, I am Dr. Kesler. I have performed surgeries for fifiteen years on what is going on with you. This is very rare, you are very lucky. This surgery will last three hours and forty-five minutes. I know you are terrified but you are in safe hands. I will do my very best to have this child delivered healthy as can be." She grasps my hand and holds it until we arrive in the operating room.

Once we all get settled a surgent had walked over to me and said, "Here Miss Woodley, this is a sleeping pill. Once you take it, you will feel nothing during the surgery and will wake up in five hours. Control your breathing and you will be fast asleep.'

I do as he says and swallow the pill. My mind starts to get light and my vision becomes blurry. I say in my head, "I love you Theo, please let our child live."

With that, my eyes close shut and it is up to my operating team to save my angel.

Theo's POV~

My so called "date" went well. Dakota and I enjoyed our meals and loved getting to know each other. We both were flirty and cracked some good inappropiate jokes. However, my mind managed to think of Shai the entire time and what was so important.

I begin driving back, thinking of Shailene and how much I miss her. I want to move on, I want to forget about all this heartbreak but it's difficult. My phone begins to ring and I quickly answer it seeing that it is Shai calling.

"Theo speaking." I answer.

"Theo? This is Sarah, Shailene's friend. Listen, she was going to tell you but you were a disrespectful jack ass so now I'm saying it. Shailene is pregnant." Sarah blats out.

"No Sarah, you see she had a miscarriage in a car accident. You must be mistaken." I explain.

"No, it's still alive. The baby kicked today, Shai felt it. The doctors confirmed it. It might be delivered premature sometime in the next few weeks. It's alive Theo!" She rambles on.

I take a deep breath and realize the situation I am in. I blew off this important news to go eat fish with Dakota Fanning. How stupid can I be? I left Shai helpless just because I wanted to move on. Just because I thought I no longer loved her.

"I'm getting on the next flight I can. God, I'm so sorry." I hung up and turned towards L.A.X

Shailene's POv~

"Theo stop!" I giggle, Theo tickling my stomach.

"Never babe, you're mine." He flung me on top of him.

I lean down, our lips only a centimeter away from each other. Theo chuckles and pulls me down so our lips touched. Of course it started off slow, both of us cherishing the moment. Then we picked up the pace, him grabbing my waist and deepening the kiss.

"Mommy!" Our bodies seperate at the high pitched voice.

"Baby girl, where were you hiding?" I grin, seeing our daughter jumping up and down on Theo.

"In the closet, why were you eating daddy?" She giggles and kisses her father on the cheek.

We all crack up, I smile at this moment. We are finally a family.

"Shai, wake up." A faint voice whispers.

My eyes slowly open, blinded by the bright light. I rub them, feeling needles in my arm for blood work. That was a dream, Theo and I aren't together. I don't have a daughter, we will never be a family. I break into sobs, crying and wishing for the love of my life to be here with me.

But he is isn't, he's with his new girlfriend. The girl whose better and will be the mother of his child. I cry even more, never knowing when I'm going to stop.

"Shai baby, it's okay. Everythings okay, it's me Theo." He wraps his arms tightly, carrying me bridal style and letting me sit on his lap.

I wipe away the dripping tears and blink slowly, my vision clearing. There he was, holding me and kissing my temple. This wasn't a dream, he was physically here with me.

"You're here?" I whisper.

"I'm here." He kisses my cheek.
