Chapter Twenty- Three: We Can't Anymore

Theo's POV~

It's been a week and today my uncle finally passed on. I'm upset and depressed because of my uncle and Shai. We haven't talked in over a week and I really need her now.

I dial her phone number, and it rings.

"Hello?" She answers.

"Shai... He's gone." I breathe in heavily.

"Oh Theo, I'm still mad at you but I'm so sorry. He's in a better place." She says in a hushed voice.

She's still mad at me, I need to speak to her in person. Next flight to L.A, I'm taking it.

"I'm coming home tonight, well hopefully I do." I say quietly.

"Okay, I'm still at the apartment. Take it easy okay?" She tells me.

"Alright, bye Shai." I hang the phone up.

Shailene's POV~

Theo is coming home tonight, I'm having mixed emotions about him coming back. I'm thrilled to see him yet crushed because he made a horrible mistake.

I can't hold anything against him though, he just lost his uncle. Therefore I need to support him and be there for Theo.

To keep myself busy, I begin to get dressed in a green shirt and blue jeans. I can finish cleaning the apartment so Theo can relax when he gets home.

That's when I heard the door creek open, Theo must be here.

"Theo?" I shout since I'm in the bathroom.

"Shai?" He answers.

I put my tooth brush away and run down the stairs. I see him place the suit case on the ground and fixes his beanie.

"I'm so sorry." I jump into his arms.

He holds me close, breathing in my scent as if we haven't been together in over a year. It was only a couple days.

"No I'm sorry, I shouldn't have let Ruth kiss me or went to dinner with her." He sighs.

We sit on the couch and it's time to talk.

"You took her out to dinner?" I ask.

"Yes, we were mainly talking about my Uncle, then she got upset and I offered to bring her back to my house." He explains.

"When did you guys get home?" I run my hand through my hair.

"About... 9:30 PM.." He mumbles.

I understand Theo was trying to be kind and helpful, but why would he let her stay that long? That's very suspicious.

"Theo, why was she there for 3 hours?" I breathe in.

"I don't really know, we had some wine and decided to celebrate the New Year together." He sighs.

He celebrated the New Year, with his ex-girlfriend. That's cruel.

I wipe a tear and say, "Let me see if I understand. You guys celebrated the New Year together?"

"Yes Shai, I didn't want to at first but I knew she wasn't going to leave. I had a couple drinks and prayed that she was going to leave." He wipes his forehead.

"Do you know how mad this makes me? I was okay with the idea of you leaving, to be there with your family. However, you celebrated the New fucking Year with Ruth! You didn't even call me that night Theo!" I shout.

Anger rises in me, mixed with jealousy and regret. I loved Theo, but he didn't even call me that night. He was with Ruth, not his family. I'm surprised he even told me this.

"Not to make matters worse, but I didn't want to tell you either. I knew you'd be upset and hurting you is the last thing I wanted to do." He holds my hand.

Theo's POV~

Everything is falling apart, the women I love is hurt because of me and my stupid mistakes. I needed to be honest and tell her everything.

"You weren't going to tell me?" She asks in a quiet voice.

"But I did Shai. I needed to be honest with you and I hope you can forgive me." I beg, rubbing her hand.

I stare into her eyes, they are filled with tears. I'm crying myself, not knowing how this is going to go. What if we end up not being together anymore? The premiere is in 2 months! Then we have a ton of interviews and 2 more movies!

"Theo, I'm sorry for your lost and how you're upset. But I think we need to take a break. This is too stressful and I need to make my decision alone." She wipes her tears and hugs me.

I hold her as long as she can and then she gets up, going towards the door.

"So that's it, just like that?" I ask.

"Yes Theo. Just like that." Shai opens the door and then shuts it, leaving my heart shattered.
