Chapter Twenty-One: This is His Ex- Girlfriend

It's New Years Eve, the last night of 2014! The night we stayed over at my parents house went well, Theo and I had enjoyed our time there. It was hard saying goodbye but I survived.

Everything seems to be going so perfect nowadays. Theo and I are in love, being together with him always puts a smile on my face. I've never been in love with someone like Theo.

Right now, I'm finishing up cleaning our bedroom since it's only 11:00 AM. Theo asked me to move since we basically live together.

"Shai?" Theo walks in.

I jump onto the bed, stretching my small body across the soft comforter since I was basically under the bed.

"Yes?" I sing.

"I have to tell you something and I don't think you'll be very happy." He sighs.

Nerves begin to tingle in my stomach, I lift my body up so I'm now sitting on the bed.

"What is it Theo?" I ask.

"I'm flying back to England in one hour. My family asked me if I can join them because my uncle is slowly dying from lung cancer." He wipes his forehead.

"Oh Theo, I'm so sorry." I get up and hug him. He holds me close, rocking me side by side.

"You can go, I'll be find." I smile.

"I love you Shai." He kisses my temple and grabs his suitcase.

I help him pack, not knowing how long he'll be gone. What if he isn't back by the end of January? I'll be all alone, without him.

"Promise to call me when you land?" I peck his lips.

"Promise. Wear that necklace tonight that I gave you. I love you." He opens the door.

"And I love you." I answer.

With that, Theo left. He was getting on a plane to fly across the country away from me on New Years Eve. A tear slips down my cheek, I already miss him.

But I can survive, now I can focus on me, myself, and I. Couples need to have alone time and learn how to be away from one another. I think I'll make a warm bath for myself and apply a face mask to relax.

Theo's POV~

It's New Years Eve and I'm spending it with my family instead of Shailene. I love her, I really didn't want to leave her. Yet, this may be the last time I speak to my uncle for the rest of my life.

It stinks that Ruth will be there, paying her respects at the hospital since he made her acting career rise to fame. That means I'll be with her instead of Shai. I think I might jump off my plane.

Good thing I have a big bottle of Vodka to survive this trip to hell.

The plane has finally landed, it's 3:30 PM here in my home town. My mum has been waiting for me, taking me back to the house.

"Theo?" She hugs me, welcoming me into her big SUV.

"How is he?" I ask, while she starts the car.

"I think he's ready to leave son. He's had a hell of a good life for him and I think he knows that." She wipes a tear from her eye.

"I'll miss him." I sigh.

I look down at my phone, seeing I have 4 unread messages.

Ruth: Theo? We haven't spoken in ages! I hope you're doing okay!

Ruth: Theo, I was wondering if you wanted to meet up for dinner tonight to speak about your uncle?

Ruth: The plane must not let you have a lot of Wifi. Text me when you're off!

Shai<3: I hope everything is going well. Tell your family I said hi and my prayers go out to them. Love You<3

I smile at Shai's message, she always puts people in front of her. She's such a beautiful person and I miss her dearly. I wish she could be by my side at this very moment.

"Theo? You okay son?" My mom pats my shoulder.

"Yeah, Ruth asked me if I wanted to meet up for dinner." I sigh.

"Well, your uncle did help her out. I never liked her that much but you guys were a couple. I think you should." My mom smiles.

"Alright, I guess so." I respond back to Ruth.

"Just remember Theo, Shailene is your girlfriend. Not Ruth." My mother warns.

Shailene's POV~

It's 8:30 PM and I decided to meet up with other old friends of mine for the New Years. I went over Holly's house, my best friend since I went to High School.

We invited my other old friends such as Nick and Luca. Miles and Zoé got to make it to the party too. We were talking about movies and other books that were coming out.

The night had passed really quick, I felt bored without Theo by my side. It sucks not getting to spend the New Year with him.

It was finally 12:00 AM. 2015 has welcomed itself and I smile, knowing that this year contained so many memories and how much I'll miss 2014. I decided to call Theo to wish him a happy new year.

"Hello?" A feminine voice answers his phone.

"Um, hi.. This is Shai, Theo's girlfriend. Whose this?" I asks.

"Oh hello Shailene. This is Ruth, Ruth Kearney. Theodore's Ex- Girlfriend. Theo is busy at the moment. Can I take a message?" I can tell she's smirking.

My heart stops, knowing that Theo is with Ruth at 12:00 in the morning. Maybe they are just hanging out, with Theo's uncle and all.

"No, just tell him I'll call him later." I hang up the call and walk outside.

I look up at the night sky, seeing the stars twinkling by themselves.

I shouldn't worry, I trust Theodore James with my whole heart.

At least I think I do...
