The house was quiet when I awoke, the black silk sheets of Mattheo's bed brushing against my skin as I lifted the sheets off of me. The hardwood floor, cool against my bare feet as I crossed the room and grabbed the purple, beaded bag along with my wand. Archimedes' golden-yellow eyes followed my every move as I walked into the bathroom, pulling the door closed behind me.
The bathroom lights flared to life as soon as the door closed behind me, the room giving off enough light for me to see what I was doing as I opened the purple bag. My arm disappeared within the small bag as I searched through the bag for a change of clothes, sighing when all my fingers seemed to brush against were books.
"Accio, clothes," I whispered.
A simple black, long-sleeved shirt, stonewashed jeans and underwear landed upon the marble benchtop of the sink, a pair of black vans dropping onto the floor with a soft thud shortly after, "I said clothes, not shoes," I muttered as I pulled the drawstrings of the bag closed, leaving my wand and the bag on the sink while I changed out of my clothes and into the ones out of the bag.
The marks upon my neck from Mattheo at the back of my mind as I grabbed the bag and my wand off of the bench, the black vans tucked under my arm as I pulled the bathroom door open. I paused within the doorway, ears straining for any signs that Mattheo was awake. The soft ruffling of Archimedes's feathers was the only sound of movement, his golden-yellow eyes watching me as I crept across the room and placed the purple, beaded bag atop of the table.
I tucked my wand into the front pocket of my jeans as I extended my arm out towards Archimedes. "Come on," I whispered, praying that the white bird wouldn't make a sound as he climbed onto my arm.
Almost as if he knew, Archimedes didn't make a single sound. His talons pressing into my sleeve-covered arm as I left Mattheo's room and padded down the dimly lit hallway. It was as I entered the open plan kitchen and lounge room that I held my breath. My eyes remained focused upon Mattheo as he slept upon the grey couches as I crept across the room. My fingertips brushing against the door handle as I pulled the door open, my eyes widening in terror as a gust of wind whipped past me as I slipped through the gap large enough for myself and Archimedes.
I leant against the closed wooden door and listened for any signs that I'd woken Mattheo. The crashing of the waves against the cliff face filling the silence of the early morning, dawn mere moments away as I pushed myself off of the door and pulled the black vans onto my feet. Stepping off of the front porch as I made my way over to the cliff face.
A large rock jutted out from the ground several metres away from the ledge of the cliff as I drew nearer. The dark green grass beneath my shoes covered in a faint layer of dew as I climbed atop of the rock. Archimedes spread his black-flecked wings, leaning forward as he took off. His happy screech filling the air as the sky turned a soft shade of lilac, the soft golden rays of the sun warming my back as I watched the waves slam against the rockface below.
A soft smile spread across my face as I watched Archimedes soar across the sky, sighing as I pulled my wand from out of my pocket, "Avis," I uttered quietly.
Eighteen pure white canaries appeared before me, the soft chirps of the small birds as they elegantly flew in front of me filling my ears. My eyes following the small birds as they dove over the cliff, the small white bird's nothing more than small flecks as they flew above the water before they disappeared completely.
"That was a cute little charm."
I reluctantly turned around to face Mattheo, shaking my head as a scoff escaped from my mouth, "A cute little charm that I've done for the past eighteen years."
Mattheo only arched a dark eyebrow, prompting me to continue. "I do it for her," I state quietly, turning away from the dark-haired man.
My thundery grey eyes locked on the horizon and the ocean that spread out for miles-the same horizon that the white birds had disappeared across. I sighed as I raked my hand through my brown locks, climbing off of the rock and meeting Mattheo's eyes.
