CHAPTER 4 - TO CATCH A MON

THE NEXT DAY

Speed is in his lab going over case files, the table in the middle of the room is covered with 3 doughnut boxes, all of which are empty, and Alfred walks into the room

Speed: "Come to yell at me again?"

Alfred ignores this question

Alfred: "Simon Stagg's head of security was murdered last night, the coroner took some skin samples"

He then hands Speed a piece of paper that has the skin cells attached to it it was labeled "EVIDENCE"

Alfred: "Hopefully they belong to the killer, see if you can find a match"

He then began to walk off

Speed: "Can't be a coincidence Stagg's benefit was attacked last night"

Alfred then turns back to face Speed: "Going to interview Stagg now"

Speed: "I'll come with you"

Alfred: "Your job is in here, stay in here and do it"

He then walks past Lazuli who just walked into the lab and is holding a cup of coffee

Lazuli: "Hi, Dad"

Alfred: "Hey, baby"

He kisses her on her forehead and then says: "Sorry gotta go" and then walks off

Lazuli then walks towards Speed

Lazuli: "Why is my dad mad at you?"

Speed then sighs: "Work stuff" he then turns to face Lazuli who seems also angry

Speed: "Why are you mad at me?"

Lazuli: "You were supposed to meet me at Jitters, to give me scientific background for my article"

Speed then turns around and sighs: "And I didn't show up"

Lazuli: "And now I have to come up with a new article topic in 24 hours or I fail the assignment"

Speed: "Lazuli--"

Lazuli: "Don't say that you're sorry, okay? I know that you are, what I don't know is, what is going on with you?"

Speed then sighs

Lazuli: "We grew up one bedroom down from each other, do you honestly think that I don't know when you're happy, or sad, or depressed, or lost?"

She then sighs but quickly continues

Lazuli: "I'm gonna ask you one time, Speed Allen, and you better be honest with me what the--"

Time slows down as she pours a sugar packet into her coffee and Speed moves around her and she can't hear a word he says

Speed: "You want to know what's happening"

He then moves to her left

Speed: "I'm fast now"

He then moves to her right

Speed: "And, Arceus, I just want to tell you"

He then moves to her front

Speed: "How I feel, how you make me feel, but I can't"

He then moves back to his original position and time quickly resumes and Lazuli is done pouring the sugar in her coffee, she didn't notice anything

Lazuli: "--hell is going on with you?"

A beeping noise is heard from behind them and Speed moves backward towards his desk
