CHAPTER 39 - A CONFESSION?

TRAP ROOM, S.T.A.R. LABS

Speed, Trace, Alfred and Spike were all in front of the trap, inside was a hologram of the Reverse-Flash

Spike: "So, Wells set up a fake showdown with a fake opponent who was never really there?"

Speed sighed: "He figured if we saw both of them together it would prove that he wasn't the Mon in Yellow."

Spike: "This all just keeps getting crazier and crazier."

Trace turned off the hologram and then the elevator opened from behind them, Pearl walked out of it

Pearl: "I just talked to Dr. Wells. He's attending a lecture downtown, won't be back until 5:00."

Speed looked at Trace: "Alright, Trace, you know when he gets here you need to be working on the trap so he sees you set off the hologram."

Alfred: "Hold on, isn't that, in your dream, when everything went all..."

Trace: "Kali Ma. Temple of Doom. Yeah, that definitely happened. But this time, I'm ready for him."

He walked into the trap: I originally designed the force field to keep a speedster from getting out. But I've reversed it. Now it won't let one in."

Trace pressed a button of his phone and it activated the force-field, he put up his paw, pointed it at Speed and did a 'Come at me' motion

Speed looked at them: "Back up."

All the mon backed away, Speed got into a starting position, looked at Trace who gave him a nod and ran at the force-field

He bounced off of it and hit Trace's toolbox head-first, there was a big CLUNK sound when he hit it

They all winced

Pearl went over to him: "Speed, are you okay?"

Speed grunted: "Ow, it works"

Trace nodded: "Okay, as long as I'm inside, Wells won't be able to get near me."

Pearl: "And I will be in the Cortex watching and recording everything that happens."

Speed: "And as soon as we get the confession we need to free my dad, I'm moving in."

Spike: "So what do I do?"

Alfred sighed: "Wells also threatened Lazuli, so if something goes wrong here, we need you to keep an eye on her until Wells is neutralized."

Spike nodded: "I'll always keep Lazuli safe, Alfred."

He then walked out of the room, Speed gave Alfred the 'We need to talk' look

Alfred: "What?"

Speed: "Come here."

They both walked out of the room and headed upstairs

Speed sighed: "So, um, Spike told me what happened, that you kiboshed his proposal."

Alfred: "That was supposed to be between him and me."

Speed: "I so agree with that and I... and I know that we have a lot going on right now, and I should definitely be the last pokémon pleading Spike's case, but I don't get it, Alfred. Why did you say no?"

Alfred sighed: "Because if Spike proposes to Lazuli, she's gonna get caught up in the moment and the romance, and she's gonna say yes."

Speed: "What's wrong with that? Again, I don't know why I'm saying this."

Alfred: "Because one day she's gonna wake up and realize she married the wrong mon. But she'll stay anyway because she made a promise. I don't want that kind of life for her, or him."
