CHAPTER 28 - FALLOUT

THE BADLANDS, WITH SPEED AND PEARL

Both of them were on the ash covered ground groaning after they fell

Wells: "Speed? Speed, what happened out there?"

Trace: "Are you guys okay?"

Speed looked at Pearl: "Are you okay?"

Pearl nodded: "I think so."

Speed replied to Trace and Wells: "I think so."

Both of them looked straight ahead and saw a large mushroom cloud

Pearl's eyes widened: "Oh, Arceus. The nuclear explosion. There's no telling how much radiation we were exposed to."

Trace then checked: "Wait...wait, wait this can't be. The Geiger counter in the suit...it's reading less than one millirad."

Speed: "But that's normal."

Wells: "There's no radiation."

Speed looked at Pearl: "Let's go."

Pearl nodded, Speed picked her up bridal style and ran to a massive crater in the ground

They couldn't see anything inside the crater, it was covered by smoke and ash, Speed let Pearl down and she walked down the side of the crater, Speed followed

Trace: "Did it work? Did you separate them?"

Speed: "I don't know."

They walked closer and saw an Umbreon wearing a blue jean jacket and brown pants, there were several holes in the clothing, next to him was the splicer

Pearl went to him: "Black?"

The Umbreon sat up a bit and saw Pearl next to him

Pearl: "Tell me your name."

He then caressed her cheek: "Black Raymond."

Black then pulled Pearl in for a kiss

Speed smiled at the sight when he heard another voice, it was an Ampharos wearing glasses, a brown jacket, grey shirt underneath and jeans

Robert: "Uh, pardon me. Obviously, I need a change of clothes."

Speed chuckled: "Nice to see you in the flesh again, Professor Stein."

Speed then talked to Trace and Wells: "We're coming home. All of us."

LOBBY, S.T.A.R. LABS

The four mon exited the elevator, Pearl and Black were holding each other's paws, Speed and Robert were behind them

Trace then approached them and smiled: "Black Raymond."

Black also smiled: "Trace."

Both of them hugged and chuckled

Trace: "I missed you so much, man."

They parted from the hug and Trace sighed

Trace: "I shouldn't have locked you in there--"

Black interrupted: "Hey... don't."

Wells then wheeled in

Wells: "Welcome back, Mr. Raymond."

Black looked at the Umbreon in the wheelchair: "Dr. Wells. Pearl told me what happened to you."

He then shook Wells' paw: "I'm so sorry."

Wells: "I'm responsible for putting myself in this chair. You are responsible for my still being alive thank you."

Pearl looked at Wells and smiled: "You said you'd bring him back, and you did. Thank you."
