"Kane, is that finally you?" A young handsome man asked as we got closer to the table.

"Hey, Ryan. How are you brother?"

"I'm good. Who's this beauty, Kane?"

"Blue Ivy,"

"The journalist for one of the best magazines of all time, Analise Ramirez is your boss, is she not?"

"She is, but I am also Kane's co-worker at the ranch. I am the accountant for them,"

"That's awesome. Are you guys just friends, or is something more going on?"

"We're just friends, and co-workers nothing more than that," I intervened, trying to take the awkward, suspicious heat off our backs. Why I don't know but it is what it is.

"I see, well let's sit, I would love to get to know more about you Ms. Ivy,"

"Absolutely, Ryan, I assume?"

"That's absolutely right," He said with a smile. I smiled back friendly, and then sat down in the booth, Kane sliding in next to me.

"So what made you guys want to be such close friends, and how long have you been working together?" Ryan asked us. I tensed up not exactly sure what to say, but Kane took the reins, by gripping my thigh under the table and speaking.

"We have been working together for a few years now. We decided to become friends, because she technically is the HR rep for the ranch too, which means she answered everyone's questions, and concerns, and believe me she had seen a lot of me due to it,"

"He's right, he was in my office quite often worried about certain things like stock in the ranch, and things like that; But I assured him that everything would be just fine, so eventually we started hanging out and enjoying each others friendships. I'm from Knoxville originally, so I don't know very many people here, which means when I got a chance to have Kane as a friend, then I took that immediately."

"You seem like a sweet girl, but the two of you aren't fooling me the way that you think you are. I know the two of you are a thing, whatever this thing is, but I suggest being very careful Ms. Ivy. You're going to get your heart broken pretty badly, if you don't heed my warning now, I'm leaving I won't watch this debauchery. It was nice meeting you though Blue, Kane you and I will be having a talk when you have some free time to come to my place. Just you," With that Ryan had disappeared, as if he was never there in the first place. What did he mean by, heed my warning anyway?

"Kane I have a lot of questions, and since Ryan's your best friend he knows you the most. So tell me, Kane, what is he freaking out about? I have a pretty nasty gut feeling that you're hiding something very important,"

"Blue, baby, I promise you he's just talking about my career. He's thinking that I'm getting distracted, but I swear there's nothing else to hide. He's saying that you're basically just a phase because when I get big, he doesn't want to see you get hurt, and he's wrong. I want to take you along with me, I know it's only the second date but I see so much potential,"

"Okay, fine." I said, taking his bait like a naïve little teenage girl.

"Okay good. Now that we are on the same page, how about we get our food to go, I have to get into work early today okay?"

"Yeah, alright. Take me home?"

"Of course babe, I'm not a jerk,"

"Good to hear that,"

Once we had received our food the waitress brought over some to go boxes. Kane called this a second date when we have to get our food to go just so he can take me home, go to work, and leave me to eat alone. So I really hope he comes up with a better second date than this, because now he officially owes me.

"I promise you I will make this up to you at some point very soon babe, okay?" Kane said to me as we pulled up to my apartment complex. My heart was hurting just a little bit honestly, but I decided to push it to the back of my mind because I wanted to see if Kane was going to actually come through about the second date promise.

"I trust you. Thank you, I'll see you later," I said getting out of his truck with my belongings feeling pretty upset about the situation. I was probably over-reacting, which is something I am pretty good at doing, but I didn't want to already cause issues, so I was just going to pretend to be happy until Kane actually shows me that he's a man of his word.

He was being really sweet at the café today, he said he saw potential in us being together which meant that he wanted us to meet each other's families at some point down the road.

In the South that means something very important; To introduce your significant other, because most southern families, such as my own, jumps straight to the whole getting married type of deal. They are slightly crazy, but I know that they'll love Kane, and he will love them, I hope.

Kane already said meaningful words to me, but I didn't want to be naïve because it could honestly have been just a show he was putting on to get inside the family. Something still just feels off about him, and I would hate to think that he's doing something terrible that he shouldn't be doing.

I wanted to believe Kane, but I wasn't exactly sure that I could right now. Not until I had asked him all of the questions that I had for him, because something just wasn't right and it was really hard for me to shake this feeling.

So I went inside of my apartment, to write something up to ask Kane. Maybe I could get down to the bottom of this feeling, and maybe I was just being paranoid because of what Harrison had done to me during years of our relationship.

It does damage a person, and make them think bad things, even if they aren't happening, but most of the time the feelings they have are correct in the end anyway.
