~After Dinner~
"I had a really lovely night with you guys tonight, and the dinner was absolutely amazing you two. Thank you for such a beautiful night. I love you Kale, so much, and Mason welcome to the family, I love you too. I look forward to spending more time with you guys, but I must get back to my moms. I have to see Andy tomorrow night, then I'm leaving out the next morning,"
"Please be safe, and thank you for coming over; It meant a lot to us, Blue." Mason said hugging me tightly.
"Yes, of course, I will text you when I make it back. See y'all later," I replied putting my jacket on and leaving their small apartment. I stepped onto the staircase of the apartment building, the concrete dirty from all the parties they have here. Beer cans, and liquor bottles lying everywhere on the top tier of this specific one, because it's where the frat boys come to party when the dean shuts down their house for a couple months out of the year for remodels.
Brought a whole new meaning to if you can't beat 'em, join 'em I suppose. I made my way down the stairs to my car, and got in safely. This part of town can be creepy at times, especially at night. I quickly turn my car on, then begin my journey back to my parents house to stay the night with them.
Before too long I'm pulling into my parent's driveway, ready to spend some more time with them. I put my car in park, shut it off, then get out and lock it. I begin my journey back into my parents house, where I could hear them having a minor disagreement.
"Don't lie to me. Who is that girl?" I heard my mom ask, hurt obvious in her voice.
"She's someone from Blue's school, she helps me keep tabs on her when she isn't talking to us. I was worried that something had happened to her while she was in college, when she was with Harrison. Turns out this girl that claimed to be her friend, is the girl that Harrison left our daughter for. I swear to you it's been nothing beyond that. I love you more than anything, and that isn't changing now. I would NEVER throw away our amazing marriage for some girl, that's old enough to be my daughter. I'm not going to throw it for anyone, you're the love of my life, nobody is changing that,"
"Mom, dad. What is going on with you two? What do you mean you hired someone to keep tabs on me?"
"You heard that?"
"Yeah I heard that. I heard all of it, so you might as tell me the truth now. Why?"
My dad sighs but looks at me with a soft look in his eyes, "You're my daughter, and I will do anything to protect you, so when you and Harrison were having troubles in your relationship, I hired this girl from your school to keep an eye on you from a distance. Eventually, she got information that Harrison was hurting you in some way. That's how I figured out he was cheating on you and putting his hands on you. Harrison then started to hang out with this girl, and he cheated on you with her as well. It was multiple girls, honey and I didn't know how or when to even tell you, but I planned on telling you at some point, I swear that on my life."
"Well I know now, but I would like you to be more honest with me in the future. What other things have you done?"
"I promise you that's it, for now. There's nothing else that I have done. Harrison is unharmed if that's what you mean,"
"I could care less dad. He hurt me in ways that I will never be able to believe, but I know that I have someone else out there that's destined for me. Just not right now, so I'm going to focus on building my career right now, the right person will come when it's time,"
"Honey you are so mature about all of this. Are you sure you're not mad?"
"I don't even think I could be, you were only doing it out of love and worry for me. You were worried something was terribly wrong, and that was true something was wrong. Very very wrong. Listen, mom dad there's things that happened in that relationship that I haven't even told anyone about yet, because I wasn't sure how to. I'm still not sure how to, but what I do know is that I really should get some help and talk to someone about it so that I can get some help,"
"Honey, what do you mean by that, do you mean like...a therapist?" My mom asked with a gentle look in her eyes.
"Mom, Harrison really damaged me. That was an eight year long relationship, and it ended very badly. He was my first everything, and I haven't really been with anyone since because I'm afraid. I'm too scared to really move on into a relationship, and that's why I need some professional help. The last three and a half years got really really bad between Harrison and I, things were the worst at that point, because that's when he started to cheat on me. I called him out on it too, but that's when the abuse started, You and dad did an amazing job raising me, it has absolutely nothing to do with you two at all, if that's what you're worried about,"
"No, honey not at all. We just want to make sure we're on the same page so we know how to support you in the correct way. We're always going to be here for you no matter what, you're our daughter and nothing can ever change that, but if he did something to you that you don't feel comfortable telling us about, then yes please by all means see a therapist, if that's what helps you. When you're ready to tell us what happened, we'll be patiently waiting and all ears to listen to everything with whatever you need to make you feel more comfortable. I don't care what it takes, as long as you are getting better for you and your mental health, because your physical health isn't the only thing that matters, you know? Mental health is just as important, as anything else, my love." My dad said comfortingly.
I smiled at the gentleness of my parents, and the fact that they are supportive of me when I need them to be. "Thank you. I really appreciate that, dad. I love you guys so much, and there are some things that I am ready to tell you,"
"Okay, well do you need anything to eat, or drink or anything to make you comfortable before you begin, because we know this is going to be hard for you." Mom said, looking at me.
"A glass of wine would be perfect, then we can get this show on the road," I replied to her.
