"Good morning, beautiful. Are you packed and ready to take our road trip back home?" Kane asked, coming into my bedroom, while I was finishing up my last minute packing.
"I was actually just getting some of my last minute essentials but yes I think I am finally finished. How are you feeling about meeting my family and friends back home? Are you nervous?" I asked him, because he hadn't shown much emotion about the whole thing. He did plan this trip too.
"I'm not nervous at all. We've been together for six months now babe, and I think that it's time to meet your family and friends back home. It's important that I begin to develop a relationship with them now, that way if I do pop the question, I will have their blessings above all. I'm pretty old-fashioned, and from what I hear so is your family."
"I see, well then let's get on the road shall we? I'm ready to go."
"We shall," With that the two of us left my apartment, leaving it locked up, and we took off to my car.
"So do you want me to drive, or do you want to drive?"
"You can drive if you want to, I trust you."
"Your wish is my command, love." Kane replied, opening my car door for me, and giving me a small loving kiss.
"Mm, I love when you kiss me," He said after pulling away.
"Well there will be plenty of time for that my love, we have a visit with my family to attend to, and they hate it when people are late. Especially, me." I sat down in the passenger seat of my car, Kane closing my door behind me, and walking back around the car to the driver side.
He opened the door, and got in, then started the car. "Blue, I think there's something wrong with you, and you're not telling me what it is. Your behavior is different today, but I just don't know why."
"I'm fine, babe. I'm just nervous about bringing you home to my family, They're a little crazy sometimes, and you're the first one I have brought home since my first love, so they are gonna be really excited, but I just don't know what's going to happen,"
"Babe, calm down it's all going to be okay. I'm sure it's all going to turn out just fine."
"I know, I just get anxiety over it sometimes regardless,"
"I understand babe, but like I said everything is going to be just fine," I took a deep breath in, then exhaled. Kane interlocked his fingers through mine, giving my hand a small, but firm, re-assuring squeeze that I really needed from him.
"Thank you babe, you've been so helpful, and so great to me, and these past six months have been a complete blast, I'm so excited to spend many more months with you," I said to him.
"I couldn't agree more, love! I think that maybe it's time I tell you the truth about something," He said, catching me off guard.
"What are you talking about. Is it something bad?" I asked, starting to freak out a little bit more.
"No, calm down. It's nothing bad, it's just about my past is all, and eventually it's going to come to light about us, but I want you to know what you are getting yourself into with me, and my life, okay?"
"Okay, continue," I said, ready to hear more about what he was talking about.
"Well the truth is, I used to be married. I divorced my ex-wife because I found out that she was pregnant, and at first she told me the baby was mine, but when my daughter was born she wouldn't tell me the truth, and I could tell that the baby wasn't mine, but I decided to go along with it and raising her as my own. About two years ago the divorce was finally final, and she told me that she would get a DNA test done if it made me feel more comfortable anyways. I said yes. She finally just got the test results back about three days ago, but she still hasn't opened them, but I already know that the baby is another man's baby. Anyways, I just wanted you to know what was going on so that you could be aware of what had been going on in my life, past, present and future I will never lie to you about anything, I mean that."
"I trust you, Kane and thank you for telling me that, and I will never lie to you about anything either, but I'm just not ready to talk to you about my ex quite yet,"
"I understand and respect that decision. You don't have to tell me anything right now, I just wanted to tell you what was going on with my mind, because I felt that I was ready for you to know,"
"I can understand and respect that too," I replied, our hands never coming unlinked from one another the entire conversation.
With that I leaned my car seat back, a little, closing my eyes and catching a quick nap. Even though we are going back to Knoxville to see my family, and it's only a two hour drive and some minutes, car rides still make me tired, and I just want to rest. I didn't get as much sleep as I had intended to last night. And now with everything that Kane just told me is swirling around in my mind, making me wonder if he's actually telling me the truth. I mean yeah, okay they're divorced, but what if the results are a way to string him along and get him to come back to her.
I just have a weird feeling but since he's meeting my family today I am trying really hard to push the feeling away, because I may just be paranoid.
Soon I am finally able to fall into a deep sleep.
I am woken from my sleep by Kane's gentle voice talking to me letting me know that we have arrived in Knoxville.
"We're here already?"
"Yes, we are love, how about you go on inside now, and I will grab our bags yeah?"
"No, come in with me, We can grab the bags later,"
"Okay babe, if that's what you want babe," He said, allowing me to wake up a little. I rubbed the sleep from my eyes, making the fuzziness go away, then I leaned my seat back up and took my seatbelt off.
"Okay I'm awake now, you ready?" I asked him.
"I sure am," With that the two of us got out of my car and we walked up onto my parent's porch.
"Blue, honey! Hey sweetheart, how are you?!" My mom exclaimed coming out to the porch greeting Kane and myself.
"Hey sweetie, how are you?" My dad asked joining us on the porch as well.
"Hey guys, I'm doing great. I have someone that I would like you to meet,"
"Okay,"
"Mom, dad. This is my boyfriend Kane, Kane these are my parents,"
"It's very nice to meet you guys, Blue has told me so much about you. Good things of course," Kane jumped in, shaking my father's hand.
"Very nice to meet you, son. Come on in you two, and let's have some drinks. You can get your luggage later," Dad said, opening the door for us to all go inside to the kitchen. I followed my mom into the house, Kane behind me, and dad right on his heels.
"Did you guys remodel the kitchen?" I asked my parents, when I was caught off guard by an amazing kitchen, but it wasn't the same one I remembered growing up in. It is definitely different, but it's still very gorgeous.
"So, Kane tell us, what are your intentions with our daughter?" My dad asked Kane, as he handed him a glass of Whiskey.
"To have a life with her, and build a future together. I see so much love and potential inside of her, and it's such a shame that Harrison never saw that in her,"
"You're absolutely right."
"Listen Mr. Ivy, I'm not going to beat around the bush here, but it's really important that you know how much your daughter means to me. You see, I really like Blue, and I really do see something amazing in her; And it lights up my soul, giving me a purpose,"
"I think I like you, Kane." My dad said, taking a swig of his whiskey.
"I hope that you do, sir. And I am willing to talk to you about anything you want to know," Kane responded.
"Are you sure about that? I can be ruthless with questions,"
"I'm very sure Mr. Ivy. I don't have anything to hide,"
