after much convincing heloise that she looked fine, the two finally arrived at the café. the whale café, was the name.
the inside was like a winter scene, picturesque in every way. from the utterly white tables with neat perfectly-finished swirling blue patterns to the brown hot chocolate counters. everything worked well together.
it was so clean that jeno felt like a nuisance to have to sit on the chairs.
clearly heloise didn't quite feel the same as she plopped down carefreely, pulling her skirts together.
"oh hi yuo."
she greeted his sister who came over to their table with a notepad and pen.
"i didn't think you were a waitress."
"i'm not, i just saw that you two decided to come so i couldn't help myself."
they all giggled lowly at the fact.
the atmosphere in that place was so loose: anything felt appropriate. everything felt as though it fit together perfectly. like a missing jigsaw piece.
"what are you two ordering?"
"a cheese sandwich and a special hot chocolate andddd~ oh and ice cream!" "and jeno, what do you want?"
the boy had barely focused on what he would eat at all. he had just been watching heloise as she ordered excitedly, an adorable smile that made her teeth and eyes look small plastered on her face.
"uhmm, just an iced coffee will be good. thanks."
yuo nodded as she finished writing down, placing the pen over her ear and looping it in a coil of hair so it wouldn't fall. "enjoy your date!~"
they both sighed simultaneously. it wasn't a date. it was just two very bored people hanging out and enjoying each other's company, or at least trying to.
"do you know, jeno, i've been meaning to tell you a story for a while. but i just never got round to doing it." "a story? about?" "well... it's kind of a love story, i guess, so uhm- don't cringe too much, okay?"
he nodded, listening intently. "so, once upon a time, there was this person, right? they were a really nice person and pretty, like the type that everyone says 'you can't help but fall in love' about them. you know what i mean?" "yup."
"so erm, yeah, me being me, i thought i could help but fall in love. i was severely wrong. i fell in love, and i fell really hard - like so hard i probably got concussion." he laughed at this, imagine if you could get actually get a concussion from falling in love. he'd probably have amnesia by now.
"well so, i say so a lot, don't i? anyway, we both liked each other, me and this person. but we never acted on these feelings. until one day, they sent me like a love letter."
he nodded carefully. no, he hadn't assumed he was the person and that this was her twisted way of confessing. it would've been awkward if he had.
"but we had something important to do that day, so i never had the time to respond. and then after that... i- i never saw her again."
"her? wait- are you?-" suddenly a lot of things began to make sense. a lot. and he felt immediately bad for possibly trying to force her into something that she didn't want.
"i- erm, no, i don't really talk about my sexuality a lot but yeah, im bisexual." "ahhh, okay."
there was a silence for a second and heloise chewed on her lip in a kind of nervousness. about what, he wasn't really sure.
"what was the girl's name?" he wanted to know more about the story.
"estelle."
